I'm not a overly techie snob. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. I'd like something in the 52"- 65" range, 4K with a 120 refresh rate. I don't want the absolute best picture, but I don't want junk either. Something modestly priced, if you will.

I'll be using Apple TV to stream YouTube TV and all of my other streaming apps, so I'm not concerned with the Smart TV aspect. With that said, it seems like when you get into the specs I'm looking for, all of the TV's are smart TV's.

I'm all ears.

Don't get Samsung unless your apple tv is a 3rd gen 4k version.

Another question....if I'm not gaming, will I see much difference in a 120 hz vs a 60 hz?

The average TV is so nice now. Usually the biggest issue is the "smart" features. Get a cheap TV and a high end Smart Box like a Roku, Apple TV or Amazon Cube.

No, I don't expect any use cases in future broadcasts / videos with a framerate higher than 60 fps.

Maybe sports would be nice higher than 60 fps, but I don't expect broadcasts to change any time soon.

Hz is not the same thing as fps. I’m not a TV expert, but it seems like a tv with 120hz usually has 60fps based on looking at them recently.

I picked up this LG in a 75” recently and it’s pretty nice for a mid grade TV.

If not gaming, i believe the only benefit of 120 vs 60hz has to do with how 24fps movies are converted to your screen. 60hz TVs have to use something called a 3:2 pull-down whereas 120hz doesn’t (and 120hz ultimately provides a better picture).

LOL, no. For movies you wouldn't want 60hz tv though, you'll get 3:2 pulldown.

Absolutely. 120Hz is a noticeable improvement in clarity and smoothness in sports and movies.

120Hz allows 24p content to be shown at 5:5 which really clears up panning shots.

Just be sure to get a real 120Hz and not some "upconverted" bullshite marketing gimmick. 120Hz comes with a price in TV's just as it does with computer monitors.

As for OLED vs. LCD, I actually prefer LCD (in TV's) because they last longer and do not suffer burn-in.

Can you tell me the difference between a series 5 and a series 6?

Probably the number of dimming zones. It should be clear on the TCL website.

EDIT: here is a comparison. LINK

You're thinking about this too hard. You're not an e-sports gamer (at least I'm assuming, because you use punctuation), but you quoted a refresh rate in your request. You want 4K and HDR, and probably actually nothing else.

Get a TCL series 4, spend $280 for a 55", use it for six months, and if you don't like it, then buy a 5 or 6 series if you're somehow unhappy. The reflectivity of the screen (matte or glossy) has had far more of an impact on my pleasure with every single TV I've bought in the last 15 years, Samsung, TCL or otherwise.

The LG interface sucks, worse than the Samsung interface does. Plug in a Roku and make that your primary input. Anytime there is a motion powered remote (at two friend's houses), it is a total disaster. Avoid.

Buying a 4 series will help you avoid purchase regret; picture is perfectly fine (through Roku, I use Plex, Hulu, Paramount+ etc), but I could pull the trigger on a sub $300 purchase easily, versus wringing my hands about a $1000+ "future proofed" unit that I would spend seven months figuring out what the best unit was.

Buy the Hyundai, as opposed to debating BMW/MBUSA.

If you get a 120hz tv don’t bother with an Apple TV it will only push a 60hz signal.

apple TV will frame rate match everything. it doesn't force 60p for everything.

I bought a TCL series 4 roku this weekend and found the brightness inadequate for the room it's in. I'll be returning it this weekend. Reading reviews for my price point I'm considering the hisense U6H 2022 model. The 65" is 597$ at this time. Any opinions to steer clear of this one or another brighter option I may have missed? I have a roku ultra so interface doesn't matter. TIA.

I can't comment specifically on your question but as for TCL vs Hisense I can say that Costco stopped carrying TCL due to too many warranty claims but they still carry Hisense. I would say there is no reason to avoid Hisense as Costco is very picky about their brands they cover and provide extended warranties on.
