Looking at taking the family to New Orleans the week before Thanksgiving. I know there are plenty of areas to avoid and I'd like to know where to look for a good VRBO or Air B&B. Looking for something not too far from the highlights but not looking to get mugged. I've only been to New Orleans once so I'd like to know what to do with a family outside of the WW2 Museum and history. Kids are 13 & 15.

As in you will be gone by Thanksgiving. Just one thing to keep in mind, The Bayou Classic is the Saturday AFTER Thanksgiving, and that is a crowd that can get a little...rowdy.

Here's the thing, we can give you general areas, but sometimes NOLA can change from good to bad in like 2 blocks.

If you post some here we can give you some Yays and Nays.

In general, downtown, warehouse district, uptown, Irish Channel, MidCity, City Park can be decent...but again there are pockets you don't want to be in.

City Park (beignets at the Cafe Du Monde there instead of uptown, Paddle Boats, walking around, sculpture garden is quite nice)
River Cruise on a steamboat
Walk Magazine St Uptown between Louisiana and Washington
Garden District Tour
Haunted History Tour

In all seriousness, do not go to New Orleans on Thanksgiving weekend.

Not sure if the kids will be in to it but we always enjoy the zoo. Kids might enjoy a swamp tour?

I can think of 100 different places to take my kids than New Orleans.

Why not stay at a cool, old hotel instead? Get them a room, yall a room, and at least they could have a nice pool and food whenever. I’d feel safer that way.

I'd highly recommend Airboat Adventures for a swamp tour. LINK

ZipNola is great time also. LINK
