Looking to put a winch on my F-150. Eyeing the Warn VR EVO. Anyone have experience with these?
Inquiring for recommendations on size (VR EVO come in 8K, 10K, 12K) and whether to go with steel or synthetic rope.
I appreciate all feedback.

I have a smittybulit 12K on my Silverado 2500. Its about $300 less than the warn. Go with a synthetic rope.

Warn Evo 10-S
Best, most reliable brand on the market. That one comes standard with synthetic line and has wired/wireless remote system.

10k for 1/2 ton
If you "may" only use it a couple times a year I would go with a knock off brand. I've bought several non warn/superwinch and haven't had a problem.
Synthetic is better if above applies, just spool it all the way out after use and wash good. It will rot if not.
Lastly, spend more on the carrier/bumper than the winch. Cheap will rattle and warp easily

Smittybilt X2O GEN3 12K with syn rope. For a half ton you can get the 10K model.
Its actually about $125 cheaper than the warn at 4 wheel parts right now. When I bought mine it was on sale and was $150 off.
You should run your winch at least once a month. The gears get lubed by running a few full turns.

Had the 10K Warn on my Jeep, synthetic rope. Never let me down, but I have also had a Super Winch and Smittybuilt that never let me down as well.
The long Factor 55 soft shackles are worth their money, and the protective wrap on them holds up very well. I always removed the hook and just used a soft shackle instead. Learn how to splice/repair the rope and you're ready to rock.
10K should be fine, buy a snatch block and keep it in the truck.

My dad has the Warn EVO 12k. Back in April he was sank to the frame. Pulled it right out.
He bought it from Vice designs and originally had paid for a 10k. They called him the next day and said they were out of 10k but would upgrade him to the 12k for no extra charge

I have a 12k badlands on my truck. Only used it twice but it worked great each time. It has good reviews and the price is good.
