Trump didn't snub Garland. He got passed over by the Senate under Obama.

No I recall distinctly that folks on the left in particular were caterwauling for Trump to go ahead and re-nominated Garland because “it was his turn” and he was a “good centrist”.

You think a footnote is going to stop him? What do you think he is, a Republican?

No. The person who snubbed him was Mitch McConnell (by not even offering him a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee for 8 years in 2016), not Trump.

So, no dice.

Please read my other post. When Trump took over the left and the media were all up in arms and pressured Trump for a while to give Garland a chance and re-nominate him. Trump told them to pound sand. To me that is close enough to a snub to warrant Garland to step aside on matters like this just as Sessions did. Most lawyer types steer far away from even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

That is still completely off base.

A conflict of interest would include Garland prosecuting a family member, or a longtime personal friend, or an old business associate, or someone that stands to actually gain something by Garland's position as Attorney General.

Your perception of hurt feelings because of a SCOTUS seat snub are completely off base as it relates to a conflict of interest.

My take is based off avoiding even the perception of a conflict of interest, just like when Jeff Sessions bailed from the Russian Collusion investigation.

I used to work at a law firm for 15 years and we got all sorts of COI emails asking about tangential dealings with certain entities we would represent . My question is why even give the appearance of partiality in all this? Garland could easily have tasked his Deputy AG to handle dealings with Trump.
