InB4 they aren’t really greek.

They try to explain it in the episode but it doesn’t really make sense. Obviously when they kill Frank they gotta know that Nick will give them up to the cops.

So when The Greek and Spiros are talking, they decide it’s not worth killing Nick because “my name is not my name” and “i’m not even greek”. The exact same is true for Frank. Both of them knew the exact same amount of info on Spiros and the Greek.

I guess i’m kind of nitpicking a great piece of television, but IMO it doesn’t make much sense to kill one but not the other.

I think they just ran out of time and assumed after they killed Frank, Nick would rat on them.

Kind of like how they had to leave the shipment. Hell, they cared more about that than anything else.

Remember when they were talking about the plan with Frank, they didn't know about the scope of the investigation. They found that out right before they killed Frank. That changed everything.

Yes but then they decide not to bother because he doesn’t really know much anyways and they will be gone by then.

But like I said, it doesn’t really make sense. Frank knew the same as Nick, and Nick ended up talking to the police nearly the same time as Frank was scheduled to before he was killed.

They had 3 options:

1. Let everyone be and Frank rats them out next day
2. Kill Frank and Nick rats them out the next day
3. Kill them them both

1 or 3 seem like the best options. #2 is just strange. It’s not completely ridiculous, but i think the writers chose to do it that way because they needed someone alive to flip.

The fact they found out the scope of the operation and that Frank had already spoken to the investigation, it was time to get out. Leaving men to wait to kill Nicky was leaving loose ends. Lets say they stay and kill Nick. What then? Then they have to remotely get those guys out. For what? The investigation already has info from Frank and this just adds more to their plates

Vondas thought of Nick as a son and tries to convince Nick to get Frank to agree not to rat so Nick sets up a meeting with The Greek. Frank won't let Nick attend the meeting. "As Frank arrives for the meeting The Greek receives word from his inside man in the FBI, Agent Koutris, that Frank has met with the police and agreed to become an informant. As Frank walks towards him The Greek tells Vondas that his way will not work." LINK

Their next step surely would have been to kill Nick too. Frank saved him by forbidding him to attend that meeting.

Part of me always felt they killed Frank because he was right there served up on a platter. While killing Nicky wouldn't be impossible, I feel they chalked it all up and moved on with their operation.

This. Also they messed up with Frank, he wasn't tied down good enough (wasn't there a conversation where they said Boris would have done a better job) and the police found the body. I believe if the police don't find Frank's body they might have gone thru with killing Nick. But once everyone saw the body it was over, they couldn't trust anyone on the docks so they cut bait including walking away from an 8-figure cash value amount of drugs.

Also if you kill Nick, you probably need to do Horseface, and you are really cleaning house go after Ziggy and maybe a few others. Although the union was done no need to start a useless war with dock workers which probably ends any chance of ever doing business in Baltimore again.
