I travel 1-2 a month for work plus about 4 personal trips per year. My boss usually picks the flight and hotel.

I’ve got a Venture X and Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card. I book all flights and hotels through Capital One except for Marriott stays which I book direct because my primary boss almost always stays with Marriott.

Any tips or tricks? I know I’m missing out on Southwest benefits because you can’t book Southwest through Capital One, but I haven’t seen any very appealing Southwest cards.

Household expenses go in the Chase bucket. Business spend goes in the Amex bucket.

I was happy with United and was accumulating their miles and status but I am switching to American because United’s pricing is out of control now.

Tips. Learn how to maximize points and miles by exploring airline alliances. You don’t necessarily have to spend those miles on the airline you accumulated them on.

I always book flights through the airline. It gives me more pull in my mind if there are issues. I also tend to show allegiance to an airline to accumulate miles.

You can travel with Amex but have a Marriott BonVoy account and get points on each reward system.

Same with airfare.

We usually rotate through a new Southwest Visa, Cap 1 Venture and Chase Sapphire every couple of years for the sign on bonuses but mainly use our points on flights and opt for short term rentals for accommodations. Right now, we just cancelled another Sapphire and Southwest is up again to get soon but we're dumping every charge on our Cap 1 Venture since their partners with EVA Air and we plan to fly then to the Philippines next year.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

Only card we use. Put most of our household expenses, entertainment, travel expenses on it. High annual fee, but definitely pays for itself.
