re: Random UFC thought.

He was beating bjj black belts as a white belt in bjj tournaments. Was awesome when he started out.

Another former legend dos santos prob about to get knocked out in khabibs promotion here in about 2 min.

Incredibly overrated, been saying this for a long time. He was 15-5 before falling off a cliff which is average. His only big time win was against a prime Matt Hughes. He did defend the belt 3 times against some decent names Florian, sherk, and Sanchez I’ll give him that but nothing about his resume’ really jumps out at you. Lost to Edgar twice, GSP twice then fell off a cliff when he was still only 32 losing about 10 in a row

If you’re going off entertainment factor he was great. His fights against takanori gomi and Jen’s pulver were bangers

Very few fighters retire on top. GSP and khabib are the only ones I can think of. GSP came within a count hair of losing a decision to a juiced up Hendricks and said frick this I’m out and khabib had nobody left to fight and had proven himself enough plus his dad passed

It sucks to see your favorites go down in a ball of flames. I hated seeing my all time favorite Chuck getting knocked out left and right and now it’s starting to happen with Conor losing his fire :(

No he wasn't overrated.

Very early in his career, before he became 155 champion, and before the first jens pulver fight, he was always in shape, one of the first bjj black belts who wasnt a gracie in hawaii and was perhaps the first American to win a gold medal in IBJJF in brazil.

fast forward a few year and fights, he got to be too relaxed with training and was just relying on talent (this was when he lost to GSP the first time, and was fighting Renzo and Rodrigo Gracie as well as Lyoto Machida) he lost that fight to Machida at 185.

he has had this repetitive pattern that after substantial wins he would get too complacent and would just not train smart nor hard. then this would lead to him losing and the cycle would repeat.

he was a headcase that required yes men

Penn is as naturally gifted a martial artist as we’ve ever seen. Guy was also a fricking warrior. Problem is he seemed to enjoy fighting more than training. Stamina sucked.

He got fat and had a fight against 220 pound Lyoto Machida when he shoulda been in his physical prime. Young BJ when he first came up was a scary dude.
