The #Texans owe David Culley another $17 million over the next three years, per source. So Culley walks away with roughly $22 million for one season as Houston's head coach

Better bargain than Osweiler.

And knowing they were firing him shortly after hiring it's asinine they gave him a deal worth $4 mil a year.

Gotta give him market value or you get killed on the recruiting trail

He never should have been hired in the first place.

Culley is trash. Passing games get worse with him and better when he leaves. The fact that Davis Mills managed to be productive under him as a rookie with only 11 college starts to his name is very promising.

Caserio is taking some heat right now for firing Culley but anyone who goes back through the games will see that Culley isn’t right for a HC position. Playcalling and game decisions were baffling at times but he did get the guys to buy in and compete.

As it plays out now:

1. Caserio hires someone that makes Watson stay and uses their draft picks well to get back to maybe .500 ball club.
2. Trade Watson for multiple 1st rd draft picks and return to playoff level in 2-3 years.

Culley was planned to stay on for 2022 and eat another season of this rebuild

That changed when teams like Denver started sniffing around Jerod Mayo. Texans thoughts they could get another year into the rebuild before going after him for head coach.

Recent events forced their hand to move now.

Also, Watson has been done with Houston. It has nothing to do with coaching and everything to do with owner Cal McNair.

Honestly it is probably best since Texans get some draft picks and Watson gets a fresh start.

Whatever GM does this will be out of the job in 3 maybe 4 years. Watson is Fool’s Gold.
