RH Peterson Real Fyre. I have a designer series set of split oak. In laws just got the charred series. There are 10-second “burn videos” on YouTube for most sets. The catalog is fairly extensive. Your local fireplace store probably has 5-10 sets in stock to see.

2nd Real Frye gas logs. Though I don’t have an oak log set I have Driftwood logs and they are very realistic. I’ve seen their oak logs in the show room and they looked very realistic and as noted by doc there are several plus oak log options to consider.

Like you, I replaced a starter and a grate for wood because my wife likes fires. Since we got the remote start, we have probably lit a fire 3/4 the days since we have had this thing, and we got it about two years ago. I never really ran this with wood, and I am also vented, so my flue is wide open. It doesn’t put out a ton of heat, but when she lights July fires I will sometimes make her turn them down or turn the fan on. I don’t think this fireplace would put out a ton of heat with wood logs, either, though, just due to how it’s made. The logs are a very unusual material and hold heat very well. I would guess it’s somewhere in the range of a solid 2-3 log fire. If you stacked your wood right and had 8-10 logs in there with good airflow, it would certainly be hotter. But if you stand next to it, it’s warm enough, but it doesn’t do a ton for the room temp.

Some people like the less-realistic looking “ventless” sets because you can run them with the flue closed and heat up a whole house.

I have the Real Fyre logs as well. They look exactly like real wood logs. I installed myself and it was relatively easy. As far as heating the room, they don’t do the best job, at least in my experience. Definitely more aesthetics than functionality.
