He is exactly what the program NEEDS at the current moment. A tough coach that will provide stability to our program. In the last few years, the LSU program has seen a large amount of selfishness in both the coaching staff and players. He may not fit the “culture” but a culture change is exactly what LSU needs. Props to Woodward for not going for the sexy hire. The dude is a winner, and is consistent. We need that right now.

It’s been almost 20 years since we didn’t have a goofball as head coach…it’s nice to break things up a bit.

Hasn't won shite at a major program, has the wins record playing a soft schedule yearly, will never win the SEC West as long as Saban stays. The thing about this hire is that it was an awful hire...

Just out of curiosity, which coaching candidate “has won shite” at a major program?

He also had to recruit with high academic standards which makes it hard to get top talent. You can’t hide players in clap for an A course at ND. Here at LSU, Kelly will be able to do that somewhat. Plus with ND, he has national connections for recruiting.

I'll bet you think Sean Payton would have been a better hire, huh? You Saints boys are something.

Notre dames strength of schedule is currently #16, tougher than half the sec teams, do there goes that dumbass argument.

And he’s the same age as Orgeron. People just love to melt.

He HAS TO improve his offense though. That is the one glaring thing for me for him. They've had only one great passing offense over the last 5 years. Other years have looked like 2017 and 2018 for LSU.

Yall, offense, and especially QB has been our problem. I will be incredibly pissed if this isn't improved because we could have had Lane Kiffin.

Bringing a coach in that the media has gushed over, vs the last two coaches that the media has constantly mocked has got to help.
Yes, they gushed because he was at ND, but they have to still respect him.

11-14 against ranked teams meaning he's won only 44% of his games against ranked opponents. His teams have gotten their bell rung both times they've made the playoffs. In other years, he's had some nice wins against weak LSU teams in the Music City Bowl, and the citrus bowl His #6 ranked team got their arse handed to them by Cincinnati this season. Lincoln Riley would've been a horrible hire but Brian Kelly should be shining his shoes. There aren't any coaches that have won at major programs making the jump which is why Woodwards style of hiring a big name for a lot of money is as dumb as it gets. Jimbo Fisher is making $100 Million at Texas A&M to never win the SEC West thanks to Woodward. Now, LSU has a joke of a coach to do the same earning a ridiculous contract as well. Luke Fickell was the name to get and Woodward failed to even attempt to hire him. Notre Dame will hire him by next week and laugh their way to a national title in a few years time while LSU pays Brian Kelly $10 million a year to finish second or third in the SEC West.

Again….Notre Dame has tough academic standards for athletes. You can’t get Eddie Lacy types at ND.

It’s a safe hire.

He’ll be just fine…….will he be great? Who knows.

However at 12-15 million, do you really want simply a “safe” hire after axing coaches who won titles?

He was my number one since O was fired.

I'm glad to have him. No BS, tough minded, get on or be gone.

12M plus a year, he knows what he has to do.

I was a little underwhelmed but the more I think about it, the more I like the hire.

I agree with the OP.
