Because these and other coaches are usually past athletes and have a competition drive in them. They want to be coach of the best team and to strategically make that happen.
Every coach wants to be the next “Saban” and coaching a mid-level team to 10 wins every season is not going to satisfy that competitive appetite.
It’s not so much about the money, as it is the quest to be one of the best. A blue chip team on the ropes is a highly sought after job.
