Perception of the LSU coaching job

I don’t believe the LSU job is as highly sought after by high profile coaches as everyone thinks. A couple reasons, we’ve fired two national championship winning coaches and one of them just two years later. The fans and administration expect championships but as you’ve seen with the sec this year, the league is deeper and almost team can go down from week to week. So why wouldn’t these coaches such as Luke fickle, billy Napier, James Franklin and Dave Aranda just stay at their current jobs getting paid millions and celebrated for going 9-3 or 10-2, where as those records at LSU could land a coach on a hot seat.

Pros:
- Pay
- Recruiting
- Recent history
- Fan base
Cons:
- fan base
- expectations
- Saban
Hell ESPN has LSU the #1 opening above Florida and USC, the firing of O was more than just wins and losses.

If O had produced 10-2 or 9-3 seasons over the last two years, he wouldn't have gotten fired.

Because these and other coaches are usually past athletes and have a competition drive in them. They want to be coach of the best team and to strategically make that happen.
Every coach wants to be the next “Saban” and coaching a mid-level team to 10 wins every season is not going to satisfy that competitive appetite.
It’s not so much about the money, as it is the quest to be one of the best. A blue chip team on the ropes is a highly sought after job.

Coaches who think like you are not the ones we want.

7 wins in either season would mean he is here at least 1 more season.

You’re completely wrong. The perception around the country is that this is at worst a top 10 job. Most people know Miles and O are morons which is why they were shown the door. They also realize if those two can win titles here, just about anyone can. There’s very few schools across the country that possess the advantages LSU provides a coach.

Big time coaches aren't gaping, bleeding pussies like this.

This. I’ll add to that with people that comment with “who would take the LSU job when the last 2 coaches have been fired” are giant pussies and have probably never competed in anything. They are also the same people that can’t believe our players can’t perform perfectly every single play. These same people cover both sides of the spectrum with zero awareness of what it takes to compete/perform at a level above Pee Wee…

With greater pay comes greater expectations. And with greater expectations comes greater risk. We want a man with ambition who wants to win it all

The LSU job is a top job, plain and simple, but sometimes coaches get comparable pay and don’t have to move their entire livelihood, so they turn us down.
Start listing schools that are higher profile and let’s see how they’ve done with coaching searches…

He was on the hot seat because the program was in a tail spin and that’s why wheels were set in motion after Auburn 2020. If O would have gone 7-3 in 2020, no one bats an eye. Rational fans expected some fall from grace after 2019. The problem with O is that he doesn’t solidify either side of the ball, he’s had too many mulligans at coordinator positions and to be honest his recruiting was starting to taper off. There were too many “sure things” that left him at the altar on NSD.
9-3 isn’t going to have you on the hot seat, but that sure as hell should be the floor for expectations.

Well, that's a good point but he was fired when it looked like there was no way in hell we would sniff a winning season. I think the firing actually sparked the team, dunno.

One would not adapt and the other wasn’t the long-term solution. LSU has done everything as far as pay, staffing, facilities, etc. to get a great coach. And, Louisiana has great talent and LSU does well recruiting in neighboring states. It is a great job with an avid fanbase and supporting city.

Still pissed me off seeing local talent stopping LSU from beating Bama three weeks ago.

Rich Rod turned down Alabama. Let that resonate for a bit.

Josh Pate said that his sources tell him that LSU is a top ten job in all of football, college and pro combined. Top 3-5 in college football. He has been told that there are NFL coaches who would take the LSU job in a heartbeat.
We’re easily the best job that is open right now.
