LSU President William Tate IV has lifted the university’s indoor mask mandate, the school announced in an email to students and faculty late Tuesday morning. “Upon the recommendation of our Health and Medical Advisory Committee, we have decided to lift the indoor mask mandate on our Baton Rouge campus and end restrictions for on-campus events, effective immediately,” Tate said. LSU had maintained its mandate for several weeks after Gov. John Bel Edwards had lifted the state’s mask mandate. The university will continue to carefully monitor the trend in COVID-19 cases and quarantine protocols.

We will continue to carefully monitor trends, and these protocols are subject to change if transmission patterns, number of cases, or positivity rates in the Baton Rouge area change significantly. The health and safety of our campus community remains our highest priority. Quarantine protocols will remain unchanged, wastewater testing will remain in place, and testing of unvaccinated individuals will continue. More information about what to expect in the spring semester will be coming soon,” Tate said.

Why now? Covid is still a risk we need to get our 10th booster before we take masks off /s

LSU must be losing money again. I made my decision to go elsewhere based on LSU's mask and vaccine policy.

I went to the basketball game last night and there wasn't a mask in sight. I thought it had already been ended.

That’s the hilarious part. Students gotta wear a mask to sit quietly in class but those same students can be shoulder to shoulder cheering and screaming maskless on the very same campus in the very same day

It's all about the government saving face at this point. I am sitting in ATL thinking about this very thing. The airports and planes will be the last to admit this was all theater. But even they know. Delta is running looped messages on their TV's about how the plane air is HEPA filtered and exchanged every two minutes. This is all in preparation for lifting the useless mandates.

Nope, not for students in classes (until now) . Though I'm not sure how strictly it was being enforced.

Probably because the state is only reporting about 200 cases a day, and as of a couple days ago less than 200 people in the hospital. CVOID has basically cratered in LA for now, and even the most ardent of pro-restrictions can't make the argument for them
Doesn't mean these idiots won't make them mask up again for the start of the spring semester when cases invariably rise some amount over the holidays, but for now it's good news

I know they wanted masks at all Indoor sections of the stadium including concessions. I can’t remember seeing a single one Saturday, but I was hammered.

Hell, he's part of the problem. He was caught attending an event in the PMAC maskless.

While #LSU ended its mask mandate on its flagship campus in Baton Rouge, LSU-Shreveport will continue current COVID-19 protocols, including mask mandate LINK / via

Apparently some individual professors at the BR campus are trying to still require masks in class despite the president of LSU repealing the mask mandate for LSU.
