Centenary to resurrect football program--and watch out, LSU...

From 710 KEEL's website:
Centenary Football Is Undefeated Against LSU
That's right, Centenary College has never lost to LSU...and yes, they did play. Now before we get too far, there are some "records" of games between LSU and Centenary before 1900...but these are all very questionable. So we're going to look at the more historically accurate info, which says the Centenary Gents and LSU Tigers played twice in back to back years, 1932 and 1933. The first game was in Shreveport, and the Gents sent LSU back to Baton Rouge with a 6-0 loss. The following year, LSU was ready to get even with Centenary at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. But Centenary was able to get out of Tiger Stadium with a 0-0 tie, and no loss. Leaving Centenary with no losses against LSU with a record of 1-0-1.

A national search for a Head Football Coach will start right away, with a possible announcement coming in early 2022. The team will begin player recruitment after a coach is hired.
There you go Coach O

What a waste of time and money.

I have a “Centenary Football Undefeated since 1941” shirt in my closet.

This is a pretty cool program cover.

Get them on the schedule and let's hang a 100 on them

Agreed. Should be investing in trying to get back to D1. Stupid arse move.

Of course it's only right large cities like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and even Lafayette have college football teams. Has anyone ever wondered why smaller cities like Monroe, Grambling, Ruston, Natchitoches, Lake Charles, Thibodaux, and Hammond do as well but a city the size of Shreveport and Bossier City combined does not? If anyone knows the actual reason I'd like to know.

Its not so clear that it is a waste of time and money, although you cannot be blamed for thinking that..
At some of the very small schools, having an additional hundred or so students enrolled at full tuition ( no schollys for football), plus modest ticket sales far outweigh the incremental costs of uniforms and a few salaries.
A few small colleges are using football to stay alive financially. It may not work in the long run, but they have few options.

1. I forgot about this school completely.
2. Who are they going to play? I take it ETBU, Millsaps, Sewanee, and so forth?

Centenary has 549 undergrads. Adding a football program is a waste of time and money.
I grew up in Shreveport and the place is smaller than my high school.

I grew up in Shreveport, too.
Your post on the number of students only supports their argument.

How? They're gonna get enough kids to come to the school to field a football team and have them all pay full tuition since they don't have any athletic scholarships?
I guess we'll have to see how it shakes out. The people on the Board of Trustees there are smart and I'm sure they did their due dilligance but from what I'm seeing from alumni on Facebook, they seem more confused about it than anything.

I don't know how much tickets were but I think that is a program selling for 15 cents.

Will they play their games at Indy Stadium? Haven’t been there in a long time but is that area around the stadium any better than 15-20 years ago?

They're playing at the soccer field between the Gold Dome and the baseball stadium
