First Time Yard Help

First time yard owner in Texas looking for help after lurking on this board for awhile now.
Two key questions I have…
How and when do I fix this? Is this brown spot or something else? LINK
Can someone point me to a year round St. Aug plan in another post that I can follow? I keep seeing posts about pre-emergent (Celsius) and wondering if Im too late….and if I am too late, am I too late for other treatments? Do I just abandon ship until spring?
Im talking brand new yard owner guys so any advice is appreciated. Extent of my experience is just mowing, edging, and blowing….that’s it. I guess I’m afraid to mix a toxic cocktail or mistime some application and have to look at murdered grass/dirt for several months.

God damn that's cut short!
Needs to be 3-4 inches.

That looks like brown patch but there are folks far more qualified than me that will know for sure
here's a link to a thread with a schedule...thread also contains another link
St Aug Maintenance Schedule Thread
there are some great folks on this board that know a ton and are always sharing and answering questions, so just use the search feature and you'll find more stuff

also, Celsius is a post-emergent, not a pre-emergent

Exhibit A of my lack of knowledge. Thanks.
Yea, to the other poster I admit it looks short but it isn’t as short as it seems I’m real life. I’ve got my push mower hiked up pretty good.

Where in Texas? I think Ronk is the DFW resident lawn expert. But lots of knowledge on this board.

Houston. Yea I see him and a couple other guys as the experts around here offering tons of advice but I get nervous. I’m probably overthinking things.

Classic large patch fungus. Used to be called brown patch but now that is reserved for cool season grasses. Scott’s disease x will take care of it.
I suggest simazine for winter pre em. I prefer specticle but if you’re new to lawn care start small and work your way up.
