Are you serious? You can’t be serious.
Let’s just pump out the Gulf of Mexico while we are at it.

Not that it's easy to do at this time of day with the exterior, but absolutely make sure you have videos or pics of you home with you to show what it looked like before the hurricane. At least take quick pics or video of the interior if you dont have any already. Anything like that you can do to help speed along the insurance claims process, do it before you leave. Never know what you'll come back to.

Don't pay attention to the media. Pay attention to the NHC.
It's a Cat. 4 right now and likely still strengthening.

I think you should leave, especially with small children. We stayed in south LC for Laura. The weather station equipment at the airport near my home broke after recording gusts of 136 mph. That was early in the storm. It was the longest night of my life, stuck in a small closet, listening to objects hit my roof, hearing wood twisting. We all have PTSD from that.
Ida will be worse. Get your family out ASAP. Please

I lost a Saint's watch off the beach in BSL back in '85...maybe I could find it.

I just woke up and have been trying to catch up on this thread. What am I missing here? None of the news outlets are saying anything has really increased with the storm. I am in BR. I planned to stay. We have a whole house generator. The only reason I would leave is wind that would rip the roof off.
From about 11-1, Ida blew the frick up and is now Cat 4. The wind speed impact to BR area appears to be possibly a little greater than before. Possible it could still be Cat 2 when it heads past BR. There is still some doubt as to where the eye will pass--just west or just east of BR. The track seems to indicate a little east, but that could have just been a wobble
That is a summary of what the knowledgable guys here have told us.

I am in a stable house in Mandeville, but I have a wife and 3 small ones here. Is it best to wake them up and just head north?
For most, as long as you’re in a stable house and are not in a flood plain or an hour or so from the coast, you are generally safe. (Doesn’t mean you won’t have damage or lose power). That said, always follow you’re gut and do what you think is best to protect your family. Just dont get stuck in the car because of debris, water, traffic.

These political leaders want catastrophic events. Theres money to be made in disasters.
Why did the weather channel stop covering the hurricane before it blew up to cat 4?
Are they trying to purposefully keep people in the dark?
Why didn't the mayor's and governor have a concrete plan for a massive evac in place already. Considering they should since hurricanes occur every year.
Why was it too late to open contraflow? You do have a national guard that could help direct traffic out.
Sounds like a lot of obstacles and too many weird coincidences for one major event.

Should we even attempt to go to lake charles from Mandeville or hit toward Hattiesburg.

How much do you like bacon, burgers, good food. Cause chances are you aint gonna be able to get it easy for a few days in Louisiana if not more than a week. Might as well get out crash in a hotel room and get some good food on the road. Best of luck to you.

Honestly...WTF is going on with getting planes in this thing?
All major accidents, catastrophes can be traced back to a series of seemingly minor failures and missteps that were either explained away or dismissed. Something like Cpt. Jaxon Baw had flown over 80 missions into storms in the GOM and always had sporadic spikes and drops in one of the gauges in his turbo-prop…

if you are able to leave then leave at the earliest your work will let y'all... unless you plan on sticking it out with no power and 3 kids. The sooner y'all can get out the better. Traffic is only getting worse by the minute.

Cloudtops warmed in the last few frames.

If you haul arse soon, LC should be ok. But the weather in your neck of the woods will start to deteriorate soon, and as people have said earlier, when people wake up in a few hours and see what this storm has become, I believe chaos will ensue on the roads

Anyone staying through this, I can damn near guarantee it will be the last time you do so. I left LC to go to DeRidder to stay with my parents for Laura. It wasn't much better there. Hearing those well over 100mph winds outside for about 4 hours straight was pretty damned terrifying.
We got super lucky. Walking outside once day broke and the storm subsided a bit, opening the door to see every single tree on the property uprooted and the the house basically unscathed...something I will never forget as long as I live.
