Don’t know if glycemic index and net carbs are related in any ways, but dropping bread from my diet is step 1 to lose weight. Not just white bread - all bread. Potatoes and rice also have to go.
It’s not as simple as just less carbs.
When you reduce carbs we tend to replace it with other things like protein and fat. Which keep us full longer. As a result I bet you end up eating less calories and snacking less. Thus weight loss follows.

This should end the thread. Avoid things with added sugars and you'll be fine.
Wrong. White bread hits your system as bad or worse than straight sugar.

I went to a diet high in leafy green vegetables and fruits. Occasionally I’d have a baked sweet potato.
Experienced nice weight loss.

Can't remember the last time I ate white bread...
I'm sure I was a kid...
To me, it just doesn't have much flavor..

This is why Americans are fat
Study simply shows calories are calories specifically for weight gain, and Americans take that to mean "its healthy"

Yea so you restricted calories by paying attention to what you ate.
I’m saying if you didn’t pay attention to what you ate you would naturally be more full by eating low GI carbs, protein, and fat.
If you consumed high GI foods all day you would constantly be hungry and as a result eat more and snack more.
**this applies to people who aren’t paying attention to what they eat. Aka 90% of Americans.

I cut out carbs and sugar during covid and lost 50 lbs. I think I'll stick with that.

That's awesome...
My worst sugar intake is with coffee and sweat tea. I really need to start drinking coffee black...

All carbs are sugar

if you ate 2,000 calorie a day consisting of ding dongs, McDonalds, and coke, you would also lose weight
You, however, will not be consuming healthy meals

yep
the study even says that
quote:
In view of all the contrary evidence from observational cohort studies and meta-analyses of RCTs, it is surprising that the hypothesis that low-GI (“slow-carb”) diets are superior for weight loss and obesity prevention persists. Carbohydrate quality, including GI, clearly impacts many health outcomes (17, 18, 25), and several meta-analyses have reported higher risks of T2D, cardiovascular disease, and stroke associated with high-GI diets (25, 86–89). However, GI as a measure of carbohydrate quality appears to be unimportant as a determinant of BMI or diet-induced weight loss.

Mingo won’t like this, nor will the keto crew on the health board.
I've never argued otherwise with the overall premise of the study. The problem is 100 calories of soda isn't the same with satiety or insulin response as 100 calories of chicken breast.
100 cals = 100 cals but the problem is people don't stop at only 100 cals when they are from shitty sources.
Good try though

In moderation, white bread is fine.
The obesity in the USA started long after white bread or soda was created. Its the quantity.
