High-glycemic foods, otherwise known as “fast carbs,” do not make you gain weight more than if you were to eat low-glycemic foods, a new study has confirmed. The myth that consuming fast carbs, such as white bread or soft drinks, is more likely to lead to weight gain and “promote fat storage and increase risk of obesity” was disproved by scientists in a new study published in the peer-reviewed journal Advances in Nutrition.

data on nearly 2 million adults from 43 cohort studies.
Scientists also noted that the popular perception of the “superiority” of low-GI diets for weight loss and obesity prevention had already produced conflicting results in previous studies.
According to the new study, researchers found that, upon analysing prior data, there was “no consistent association between BMI, body mass index, and dietary GI”.

Cajun turkey, pepper jack cheese, Mayo, mustard, tomato on white bread is the quintessential beach lunch. Toss some Crawtators on that bad boy and chase it down with a cold beer of your choice.
Like heaven on earth.
Like heaven on earth.

Carbs aren’t the problem. Sugar is the problem.

Until a different study in 5 years finds that, no, it is in fact bad for you.
Alcohol was bad for you 40 years ago. Then it was good for your heart. Now it causes cancer.
Trust the science! Trust the experts! If only people trusted common sense and logic.

Jesus the MSM is awful. They manipulate every story.
Sure 100 cal of low GI food is the same as 100 cal of high GI food when it comes to weight gain.
Now to insulin sensitivity and satiety.
If you drink 100 cal of soda you are going to be hungry in 30 min and drink more. Low GI foods keep you full longer.
The average American doesn’t have the knowledge to digest this type of article properly.

Now show how healthy white bread or white flour products are good for diabetics/diabetes which is still on the rise despite years of "educating" the American consumer.
What's that? Can't do it since high glycemic values means high blood glucose??? Oh darn, there goes the healthy eating myth of white bread and colas.

Don’t know if glycemic index and net carbs are related in any ways, but dropping bread from my diet is step 1 to lose weight. Not just white bread - all bread.
Potatoes and rice also have to go.

Mingo won’t like this, nor will the keto crew on the health board.
All that said, years ago the FDA changed the definition of bread from water, flour, salt, and yeast, to the Frankenstein list it is now to include preservatives (namely sugar) and allow for shelf life.
Processed foods are not good for you. Natural foods are. I remember hearing someone say if it looks like you pulled it out the dirt, off a plant, or you killed it, it’s probably healthy for you. The more you change it, the worse it will get for you.

Calories make you gain weight. What the study doesn't take into account, those "fast carbs" are less satiating which means the person who eats them will likely consume more calories in the day because they are hungrier.

white bread, bunny bread or wonder bread, is disgusting and trashy as hell

It’s amazing. So it took them 25+ years to conclude with studies that high GI foods do not cause weight gain?
That is a reckless result to promote to the general public.

This should end the thread. Avoid things with added sugars and you'll be fine.
