This is a little too simplistic of a view. Yes, people might not die of it, but their quality of life could be permanently diminished if they lose their smell, have their lungs compromised or suffer lasting cognitive decline.

Which has happened to almost no one, statistically anyway. In any event far fewer than the 1% that have died.
