quote:exactly. We could also move to the ACC and make the playoffs more often (yes, Clemson is the roadblock right now, but we'd steamroll through the rest of the ACC).
You could say LSU could have moved to the Big 12 and found the same path.
"SEC football" isn't just wearing a sticker on the jersey, it's the teams you play. Alabama, Fla and Auburn are at the heart of that.
The playoffs of course, is the goal, but I don't want to sacrifice the tough, emotional games on our schedule just to get there.
I want to play Bama. I want to play Florida. I want to play Auburn. I want to play A&M.
These games are emotional and yes, they're difficult. But that's what we want, right? Otherwise, we roll through a weak schedule with little drama. That would make for a boring 12 weeks, and I want none of that.
Let's play the big boys and if we get through it, we'll know we earned our spot in Atlanta or the playoffs.

Nah man, your thought is stupid. I want to win championships, period. If we play them fine. If we do not play them, fine. You still have to beat whoever is on your schedule and that is all that matters.

1000% agree.
Losing those games makes NCAA useless to me. Losing the best games from your schedule makes the season meaningless.
The numbers will show it too when people don’t want to watch us hang 50 on Arkansas repeatedly. It’s not worth watching.
Taking 3 of the most watched games of the season, to replace them with 3 powderpuffs is never a good thing. Gonna lose viewers. Losing viewers loses interest. Losing interest loses national recognition and money. It’s the first step toward oblivion (should there ever be that scenario) for LSU

You're 100% correct and morons are downvoting you. All these people that think we'll have more opportunities at championships because of this are just dumb. The "makes it easier" crowd is tired of losing, but what do you think will happen when we have to play one of those teams in the championship or playoff?? The same outcome will occur if we were to lose in the regular season. If the argument is only we get more money from the conference sure I somewhat understand. Frick UT and OU.

This is stupid. These are the rivalries we all grew up with as kids. That's what lsu football is all about. I don't want the "easier route". That's for pusses
Well prepare to be disappointed because your not going to play all 3 of those every year any longer. You might play 1, Florida, if the SEC goes with the 3 Permanent plus 6 rotation teams in years 1 and 2, then 6 in years 3 and 4.

Couldn’t agree more. Those are my favorite 3 games every year. Some of my greatest sports memories are going to see the Tigers play those teams. As someone who is only 26, it’s been this way my whole life. Change is hard to accept. Oh well

I still think 6 perm, 3-3-3 rotating is a possibility which would enable playing everyone within 3 years and at each venue within 6. Perfect? No. But it’s better than we have now where we only play the non perms every 6 years and takes 12 to get through a home/home.
Thing is, the SEC powers that be (wrongly) have never put a premium on everyone playing each other. They’ve been most concerned with preserving rivalries and keeping the schedule at 8 games.
The 6-3 rotation would be akin to how it was done pre-expansion when there were only 10 teams and 6 games. At that time it was 5 perms, 1 rotating. Took 8 years to get through a full cycle.
FWIW, my 6 perms for LSU would be Bama, Aub, Fla, A&M, Ole Miss and Texas.

I could do without Auburn, tbh.

There is nothing artificial about playing FLA every year. I’d rather play the best teams and beat them and everything else works itself out….

So lets just make it harder on LSU than any other team in the nation to make the playoffs, just so the fans can see us get our teeth kicked in 7 years in a row by Alabama?
We will see those teams plenty if we win our division, no need to have to play one of them twice or more a year.

If you grew up in the Southeast and had friends go to the traditional SEC schools, losing these annual games is a travesty. Yeah, it sucks losing to Bama on the reg but things change.
The potential of being stuck in a pod with the Texas schools and Oklahoma or Mizzou would be a huge bummer.

Your Right. We should have divisions were we move bama and auburn over to the east and have texas and oklahoma move to the west. Then we have bama as are perminete east team that we play every year and we rotate a team every year from the east as well. so we have 9 conference games and still play bama every year. that's the only way we play bama because the SEC is gonna screw us over anyways. I hate the pod proposal

I hope the downvoters are taking the angle that they wish other teams had as difficult a path as we do as oppose to us having an easier path. I want less cupcakes and more big games. UF, AU, and Bama games are some of the most memorable we’ve had. I understand wanting the rest of the NCAA to have the same level of difficulty but I can’t understand why some want our schedule to be easier and less memorable. This is one reason I’m optimistic about potential super conferences. If the schedule is done correctly you could have a lot more parity.

Every year LSU will have 2 or 3 huge games on the schedule, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas or Oklahoma. Every weekend of the year the SEC will at least one big game if not 5 or 6. There will be some great games played with the new members and format. The SEC is going to boom from these moves.

I remember the 6 game schedule, 5 permanent 1 rotation. LSU's in the 70' was Ole Miss, State, Bama, Florida and UK, rotate UGA,TENN,Auburn and Vandy. First time I saw LSU play TENN was in 1974, the next time was not 1982 when Reggie White and Willie Gault were at TENN.
No offense, but I hated that format as a kid in the 70's. I think 1978 was actually the first time LSU had played UGA in Tiger stadium in like a quarter century.

Foolish take, so Alabama continues to slyly pussyfoot the easiest path to postseason glory as LSU has to grind down a more difficult schedule?????

That's why folks here are so anxious for those teams to be in the East. They're tired of losing to them - well, except for Auburn at home
Since 2010
7-4 against Auburn
8-3 against Florida
So tired of losing to these teams-

Well I think in a 3 game permanent, Bama is playing Auburn, TENN and maybe MSU
LSU will play: Ole Miss, Texas A&M and either Florida or MSU.
IF TENN gets their stuff together, those 3 are not that different if LSU plays Florida.
If your concern is about Bama having an easier path, then you should be in favor of the 7-2 format with 2 divisions, Mizzou goes West and Bama and Auburn go East
Bama would have UGA/Florida/Auburn/TENN/UK/SCAR/VANDY
LSU would have OU/TX/Aggie/Ole Miss/MSU/Mizzou/Arkansas
Maybe more depth in the West but the East would be more top heavy.

The tradition part of college football is coming to an and. It's been a huge part of the sport forever but these schools aren't going to let tradition get in the way of money. That's just the way of the world now.
And since we're going down that rode they might as well get rid of cross divisional rivalries altogether. Not all rivalries are created equal. Some schools have power houses as their permanent rival and some schools have a train wreck permanent rival.
I remember Les talking about how absurd that is. LSU and Auburn have had to run the gauntlet just to make it to the SEC Championship while bama plays Tennessee every year lol.

Oh so did I. And what made it worse in those days was they would do the home/home back to back, so it would be 8 year period before you’d see them again as you pointed out. I never got to see Aub or Ten as an LSU student in the 80s.
But the prevailing sentiment that I’ve seen on these boards seems to be keeping the popular matchups while playing everyone else more often. The 6-3 rotation would seem to be a mix of that.
