More SEC $ with Texas and OU?

If the pie has to be divided by 16 instead of 14, the pool has to be 14% higher just to break even to current payouts without OU/UT. And I would think you don’t just want to be break even, so likely would need a 20-25% increase in pool.
The ABC/ESPN deal is already done through 2032 so curious if there’s a clause to renegotiate if more teams are added. If not, tough to see where you make this jump in short term - until the next deal.
How much will UT and OU help SECN distribution, considering state of Texas is already in footprint - will UT and OU fans keep cable or YouTube tv, etc subs which could be significant. However, I would imagine those in Texas that are sports fans probably already have SECN which is not incremental revenue.
Without knowing payouts of playoffs, Additional playoff money is unknown, but wouldn’t create this much of a jump needed
Just interesting, when people say the money is there, just curious of the assumptions on that?

The money isn't my problem to worry about. I would like two good athletic programs added in the SEC. It does appear fans are split on it at the moment, but I am all for it.

The only reason to do it is money.
Picking up an occasional game with Texas and Oklahoma, but losing games with Bama, Auburn and Florida isn’t attractive for LSU.

This is a bail out for Texas. It will dilute the SEC.

Maybe not, but sure as he'll would be for a Florida, Auburn. Or Bama.

At a cursory glance - I say yes.
Both brands have great attendance, merch sales, and private money to sustain the operations.
If they are above the current average SEC school in revenues then they will bring an increase to the whole once added to the total and redistributed.
And it is obvious their brands are better, including nation wide, then the average SEC school.

I would much rather come to a packed TS to watch us play UT/OU than pay the same price watching the Tigers play Alcorn State in a 50% TS

We would have to get a cut of the long horn network. Id suspect OU and UT would generate more money than South Carolina and Vandy.

I truly believe we’re on our way to just having one college football super conference similar to the NFL set up. The haves of college football will all be invited and the have nots will drop down in level of competition. There’s too much money to be had down the road following that model.

I'm sure TX and OK would more than pay for themselves. OK would expand the footprint. With TX you could increase rights fees. The extra premier TV matchups would increase the TV rights, eventually taking a big chunk of the Big12 value. What you can't do is bring along the little brother and sisters as they would mostly take rather than bring value.
If the super conferences are inevitable, it would be best for the SEC to lead rather than follow, but there will be a lot of internal and external resistance. IMO, this report was leaked from the inside in order to scuttle it, as this will mobilize the outside interests to poison pill it. Internally, you only need 4 teams to shut it down. A&M is clearly against and I'm pretty sure MO is against it. Given it's history, ARK may be against it too. So you only need to topple someone who on the fence to stop it.

This is all about playoff money. UT and OU wouldn’t move over until expansion happens. With 12 teams you would be looking at the SEC having at least 4 teams in the play off potential 6. That is a gigantic pile of cash and the expanded playoff is the only reason this is being discussed.

so cfb is evolving into a system similar to the minor league baseball system? A, AA, AAA?

hopefully that someone is LSU. sending Auburn and Bama over to the East to leave us stuck with ole miss and state and a bunch of Big 8 teams is a terrible tradeoff for LSU.
And don't get me started on how ridiculous 4 4 team pod system would be.

Quick Pros / Cons (my quick but no thoughtful time yet)
(LSU lens)
Pro's
Pie gets bigger - More eyeballs increases value to SECN and ABC/ESPN deals
SEC-W free from Bama and unlocks permanent UF foe
Conference strength for eventual NCAA restructuring (transition through NIL to eventual "amateur" sport transformation of college football)
TX recruiting - more options for recruits makes pipelines to UT/A&M/OU more competitive ("dilutes" each?)...on flip side, will raise NIL resources at each school that may hurt LSU
Con's
LSU TX recruiting pipeline gets competitive (SEC onramp wider for UT/A&M/OU)
Anti trust risk to Power conferences goes up (by non-Power conferences)
Playoff committee and national fatigue for SEC dominated playoff bracket will make getting playoff spots difficult for some SEC Schools
UT are a bunch of aholes

quote:A) We might not see any movement, either way, until that R-Kansas vs. UT game in Fayetteville. And the history just might work the other way than you are thinking. Arky was a dominant force in the SWC, those are actually good memories for many of their older fanbase segment - most importantly boosters.

B) My personal feeling is that when you combine the $'s with that history, Arky (after making Texas schmooze them a little just like Broyles would have done) will play possum to get the most butter on their bread while being for it all along.

Why though? It is already difficult enough to win this conference, and plenty competitive/fun to watch us play who we already do play.

This is silly. Them joining the SEC only strengthens the conference. You wouldn't be upset when a game with Oklahoma is replacing Vandy or Kentucky on the schedule.
No, but I would be if a game with Oklahoma of Texas rtt ET placed games with Auburn, Bama and Florida.
Look at the proposed alignments and schedules and tell me that don’t happen.

Having a conference with that many good athletic programs would be fun. Not only LSU games, but other conference games. I just thinkin the more competition the better.

I don't disagree that enough time may have passed; it's why I listed them last with the most uncertainty. My overall point is that the margin for getting this through is very slim. For example, FL could be spooked that a second team in the state of FL could be looked at. This merger will require some masterful political skills.
