With the Supreme Court ruling, is it wise to invest in major upgrades?

The whole college sports model is on the verge of imploding. Not the best time to be on the hook for a new bond issue.

Definitely, a lot of schools will be left behind with this. The good thing is LSU will not be one of those schools.

It's not going to implode anytime soon. Don't be ridiculous. Read the opinion and you'll see what im talking about.

Yes. Even more so. Upgrades can now be expanded outside of brick and mortar athletic facilities.

I doubt the players will get paid much from the universities themselves. It’s about paying for the use of their image. Autographs, billboards, programs, things that use the athletes as promotional materials are really what the kids deserve to be paid for.
I’m sure the NCAA will come up with some way of standardizing how much players get paid for those things as well. It’s the only way to ensure some resemblance of fairness for the smaller programs.

Yes because LSU has a seat at the Knights of the Roundtable. I would take it step further and make more upgrades..

I think you need to read slower.
The whole thing is fubar, between this, new State NIL and the Justice Department letter they blew up the whole enterprise.
The lead attorney on those cases says he is going to be amending suits to blow the whole thing up based on the Supreme Court ruling, but it was gone anyway with the Anti-Trust Division (DOJ) letter back in January.

The opinion is very narrow and will not itself change much because so little was before the Court; however, it applied a legal standard that will very likely affect future litigation.
Read Kavanaugh's concurrence. Most remaining compensation rules will likely fall.
Congress, of course, can change the law. But substituting Congress for the NCAA is problematic. It could re-create the old system, or do nothing and allow the system to implode, or it could create a new mess. Perhaps Congress will improve things, though I doubt it.
Will be interesting to watch.

Basically, the States, DOJ and now more or less the United States Supreme Court has said its none of their business. Matter of fact, the anti-trust violations have civil and CRIMINAL liabilities.
This is why new rules were not put in place back in January i.e. potential Anti-trust violations.
The NCAA's power as far as compensation is over at this stage.

The issue here is fairness to players from small schools.
LSU, Bama, UT, USC etc. have no problems. The SLUs, USLs etc. will cause this to be a major implementation problem.

I’m curious to see if schools that have major business owners backing the program like Oregon and Nike make a big jump. I know Oregon is up there already, but where does it go if Phil can throw out Nike sponsorship to top recruits and not have to hide it.
If I was someone like Bezos from Amazon with FU money, I’d find one of the lowest D-1 programs and try to make them a major player. I’d upgrade facilities, the stadium, coaching and so on and see how much truth there was to money buying championships. I guess we’ll see if the schools that are up there now with numerous big donors can keep pace with schools with big donors and a handful of really rich big donors if they start opening the pocketbooks a little wider.
Schools will start recruiting non alum donors just like they do athletes. LSU needs to get with Elon Musk real quick.
I’m not going to lie and act like I know the ins and outs of the stuff they’re passing right now. This is just me assuming it’ll end up being a free-for-all.

You shouldn’t be giving money to LSU right now anyway

Oregon is one of the schools that I thought of. Endless Nike money to buy California recruits. Just endless.

Implode might not be the perfect terminology but it's close. This compensation issue and pay for play will be the ruination of college sports...issues from individual fairness and institutional fairness to player animosity and rancor will make individuals, teams, and divisions very divided camps.

You forgot major lawsuits as the USSC has indicated not only that the stopping of higher educational benefits as anti-trust -- that the whole thing is anti-trust meaning stopping compensation. The lawsuits are only beginning. The lead attorney on some of the existing cases has said that he is now going after the whole ball of wax and will be amending current suits.
