You have a questionable definition of older.

I compare the current state of TV/Movies like College Football Bowls. When there were only about 15 Bowls just about every game was worth watching. The same when we have 4-5 Channels. Every Network was busting their asses to dominate ratings and the only way to do that is quality programing.
Like the current bowl season, there are so many the struggle to be watchable content is such a struggle that they will put just about anything on and much of it is a smoking pile of shite.

While it’s better than nothing, I really have no interest in watching two directional schools face off in Orlando’s third tier bowl game.
Last bowl season was the worst. There were almost zero bowl games outside of the NY6 between power 5 teams, and the few that were there were usually .500 or less. It was awful.
My rule of thumb is that if I wouldn’t want to watch it on an ordinary Saturday of CFB regular season, it probably shouldn’t be a bowl.

Not really. I watch a variety of current shows pretty frequently and while I find myself rewatching older stuff sometimes it’s more for the entertainment value.
Some new stuff I’ve watched recently that politics haven’t had any real influence over (far as I can tell): Mare of Easttown, The Righteous Gemstones, Lucifer, Peaky Blinders, Succession.

Yep. It's refreshing to watch something where the innuendo is still just innuendo and political talk is harmless. I watch stuff like Cheers, Home Improvement, etc, all the time.

I dropped cable years ago, so I don’t really know much of what’s on. I do rewatch shows like Scrubs, The Office, Friends, etc. You’ll get the occasional political point in those shows but it’s not over the top. Of the new cable shows I have seen, What We do in the Shadows is really good.

Older sci-fi shows, as recent as the 2000's and before, are so much better quality than what's being shoveled out by Hollywood today. It's not even close.

Love the older movies too. Great stories and not a bunch of remakes.

Both of these were very political for their day. Was it as overt as it is now? No, but they were also telling them in previously unseen settings so.

All fantastic shows

Yes, old movies, 30s - 60s. I love modern tech where you can watch part of one, come back later and watch some more.

I will admit I'm not immune to nostalgia bias but some old shows that I remember as great can be awful in retrospect.
That said there are some old shows that still hold up with production values and quality of heart and spirit.
The average non-HBO or Showtime show, see CBS, NBC, ABC was better in the the 70s and 80s.
Smarter, more interesting and better actors.
See any big 3 network shows like MASH, Rockford Files, All in the Family, Columbo, Little House on the Prairie...
And then see Two Broke Girls, Two and a Half Men, Kardashians, everything on MTV, etc.
Old shows seem to have soul. Which is what we're missing now.
Is TV better now? Yes. But that's due to the Premium channels making TV the cinema. Traditional sitcom, shows on the Big 3 are worse than ever.
Without HBO and Showtime, TV would be unwatchable. That's why most cut the cord.
