I don't know specifically what happened at Louisville this year. They were in the top 10-15 most the year and didn't finish strong.
He built that program from nothing and has done it in the state of Kentucky, so he has pulled talent from elsewhere. He hasn't won a championship, but he's been in Omaha multiple times (I think its 5 trips but I'm not sure).
McDonnell would be a home run hire.

Not to mention he lost to the eventual champion 3 out of his 5 trips. Vandy (2014), UF (2017), and & Vandy (2019).
