Im pretty sure there was a thorough debate before he ran to homeplate.
There was an academically reviewed whitepaper on whether or not he should go. After rigorous academic review, they determined he should run fast and be safe.
Another point for science.

Oregon should have put Thompson on and pitched to Milazzo

I am all for taking 50/50 type risks at the right time, that was the right time to put the pressure on.
Great hustle and slide by Dugas!

You’re taught to run on contact in that situation (men on 2nd and 3rd with one out) if the ball is hit on the ground. If it’s hit to the pitcher you’re trying to get in a rundown long enough to let the hitter get to 2nd base.
And who in the hell thought that play was overlooked last night?

Another huge play was Cade hitting a chopper over the first baseman’s head for a double advancing Dugas to third. Cade rarely hits it the other way and it was a great bounce. The baseball gods are with us!!

I’m just glad we don’t have to see Oregon’s first baseman anymore. Dude gave me the creeps
Had a very third reich, SS, look to him.

Dugas is only 1-6 on stolen base attempts this season but he’s fast as shite with a head of steam.

Didn't this play happen to us almost exactly against Florida in the CWS??
It was nearly identical; truly a game of fractions of inches.

Not to diminish the bats, but their 2nd string catcher allowed you to score some hidden runs. He failed to get his body in front of errant pitches, which allowed some runs.
Great game, though!

With 1 out, I thought it was the right call to send him. If you hold him the second out is going to be recorded at first, and you're relying on a two out hit
Excellent analysis. Thanks.

Being taught something and executing it to absolute perfection are two different things. Among all the discussions of the plays of the game there were no other references singling out this play. I would call that a somewhat overlooked play.

I am thankful to that umpire
The entire group was outstanding. There seemed to be a bang bang play each game and they got it right almost everytime, which is refreshing for the profession. They had alot to do with making the 1st round as exciting as I can remember. Kudos
As far as Dugas' score. The call most likely was go on contact even to 1st or 3rd. Dugas got a good jump but shouldve when that is the play call. He is a good player and left his feet for the slide at the perfect time. You could argue he couldve been a step closer to home at the time of the contact, but the kid does have the it factor and made it happen. Good point by the OP, Dugas had a helluva game, hes fun to watch.
