I taught my son to swim when he was three. He fell into our pool pushing one of those toy lawnmowers that make a popping sound. I jumped in and pulled him out. I will never forget that look in his eyes when I jumped in after him. I taught him how to swim right after that incident. Taught a 4 year old in the neighborhood how to swim last summer. Great post OP!

Every kid should learn at a young age. Every kid should know what to do if they ever fell in water.

Most of the people that you see “swimming” with their heads out of the water are not really swimming. That takes a lot more effort than moving through the water with the head in the water and turning the head to breath. They would be unable to maintain that for long if necessary. They need to learn to swim even though they think they already know how.

I know several people that learned how to swim by their dad throwing them in the deep end. They wouldn't have let them drown, but the kid thought they would at the time.
I thought this was the normal way for our generation to learn to swim.

It is. You don’t remember a lot from your early childhood but I remember going to the YMCA and getting thrown into the pool not knowing how to swim. Scary as a child but you figure the shite out and start having fun.
70% of planet earth is covered in water. Knowing how to swim should be important to everyone.

That’s scary. A child should be a strong swimmer by the age of 8.
At 8, I used to swim our pond most days I was off. 900ft long.
Almost drowned in 5ft of water at a hotel pool acting stupid.
A brother with a drink in his hand saved my life. Never spilled his drink.
shite happens and panic is a bitch for kids.
