Isn't that what's already happening>?

Alabama literally got brought up by someone else. Moron.

The difference between CBB’s best is far smaller compared to CFB. Often times the 2nd ranked team is capable of smashing the 15th ranked team by 30 points. In the sport of basketball, the blowouts aren’t as large.
95% of the time those games are blowouts, hell it wasn't until recently that a 16 seed beat a 1 seed yet there's no call to shrink the CBB bracket. Your argument holds little weight as upsets do happen in college football

That’s why G5 teams should not get auto bids. Under no circumstance does a 5 loss G5 belong in a playoff.
I'm not saying they do but they are the only team there without double digit wins so you're whole orginal point thats a bunch of 4 loss teams will enter the playoffs is false
quote:
playoff featuring Bama, AU, ND, Michigan, etc. is going to bring in far higher ratings then one featuring FAU, Memphis, Miami (OH), etc.
So then give the G5 teams autos and make the rest at large

We’ve already seen that most of the playoff games have been blowouts.
That's not the point again the point is to give the right amount of teams a chance. Sure Bama may beat Oregon or Wisconsin in the first round but it's not a guarantee.
Expansion can only help other schools especially smaller schools recruiting wise as our current format makes it nearly impossible for those teams to make it

An 8 team playoff is coming. It will generate more excitement at the end of the season but it will most definitely allow a 2 loss team into the playoff.
Diminishing returns vs fan excitement.

16 Team Playoff
Reduce the amount of regular season to 10 games and make it an all conference game schedule. Then have the 1st round be home sites for the regular season. The reason i have come around to this, is because the CFP has absolutely ended the bowl system. Any player of any value is going to opt-out of playing in meaningless bowl games. Going to 6, 9 or even 12 still doesn't change that. 16 Teams is going to be the endgame anyway, so lets just get to it now. I'm not necessarily super thrilled about this, but its the only way to keep the regular season interesting. The more teams alive for the playoff, the more teams keep playing hard. Take the top 16 teams by CFP rankings.
Would have been some great matchups.
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Ohio State
4. Notre Dame
5. Texas AM
6. Oklahoma
7. Florida
8. Cincinnati
9. Georgia
10. Iowa State
11. Indiana
12. Coastal Carolina
13. North Carolina
14. Northwestern
15. Iowa
16. BYU
Cincinnati vs Georgia at Nippert Stadium in December would be GREAT entertainment.
Of courese getting ANY of these schools to give up the revenue from those 11th and 12th games is the giant elephant in the room.

Most of the power 5 teams in America would never play another OOC game again. Best have at least one power 5 OOC game on the regular schedule.

The downfall of ncaa football has begun. The playoffs + modern transfer rules + paying players will be the end. Not that ncaa fb will end, but the enjoyment/excitement we grew up with will end. There is no perfect solution, and they are trying to make one. Allowing more teams in the playoffs is allowing shittier teams in. The excitement of ncaa football came from each week having major implications. Now you will be able to lose 2 or 3 games and still have a shot. It takes away from regular season

But having 2 losses actually keeps the regular season meaningful for those teams. Again, expanding the playoff to 16 actually keeps the regular season important for MORE teams. It also will likely prevent the massive opt-out culture from happening with those 16 teams. Opt-out culture is only going to get worse and worse for ANY team who doesnt make the current 4 team playoff. How is that good for college football?

I just dont understand this way of thinking. It keeps the regular season MORE entertaining for MORE teams. Literally every other division of football has a real playoff. The problem with the CFP is that it was too small. Once they expand it, the 1st round games at home sites will create some AWESOME matchups and atmospheres. Finishing in the top 8 will become THE biggest goal. Hosting a 1st round game will become one of the most important aspects of the playoffs. Imagine playing at ANY B1G West school in December? No SEC or ACC school will want that. This is why the regular season will still be incredibly important. I am with you on the transfer and NIL era we are about to embark on.

Extended playoffs aren't happening. The college football playoffs are locked into contracts for the next couple years.

Not if all the conference commissioners and presidents agree to it. Its 100% doable.

Think about it like this. BYU plays @ Alabama in a 16 team playoff. Alabama steam rolls BYU...does Zach Wilson still go #2 in the draft? Or conversely, BYU plays Alabama to a tough loss because Zach Wilson balls out...does Zach Wilson possibly go #1? All i'm saying is that a 16 team playoff creates tons of intrigue and entertainment oppurtunities all while keeping the regular season meaningful.

The regular season would have a hell of a lo t more meaning if every conference champion made the playoff. Not sure why this is so hard for some of y'all to understand.

The Sun Belt has been ahead of the MAC, CUSA and MWC the majority of the last 5 seasons.
But you can continue to be ignorant, it’s ok.

Call me crazy but I like the idea of an 8 team playoff. In literally no other sport do fans complain about it watering down a regular season. Also, I like the idea in the OP. People complaining about certain schools getting in every year are weak. The playoffs are better with the big dogs in it.

They had the chance to redeem themselves with wins over 2 undefeated and number 1 ranked teams at the end of the season. And then got another shot at a top 5 team in the rematch in Atlanta.
I suspect in an 8 team playoff the 2 loss team will have to be a lot less accomplished to get in.

This talk of expanding the playoff ruining the regular season is nonsense. You have to win your conference to be guaranteed a spot. If you don't win your conference or even your division then it's gonna be really difficult for you to make it unless it's just a down year for everyone else.
Exactly. These are probably some of the same people who want as many bowl games as possible, but bitch about the thought of expanding the playoff to include more teams.
More football is apparently only bad when it gives teams deemed "unworthy" of a chance at a national championship.
