Booking a Hotel..your go to?

As of late I've been booking anything through Hilton app due to work and travel... but have an upcoming trip that I'm looking at where I see the same Hilton property for cheaper on a different site, so will not get the Hilton Points when booking.
Also, have an option of booking through Southwest site and getting 3-5k worth of Reward Points for a cheaper rate than booking on the Hilton app.
I should stack the Southwest points correct? or stick to the normal and book via Hilton.
***Bonus option, hotels tonight app on my phone usually has some rates around $100 for nice hotels..should I entertain that option as well? (no rewards points gathering there worth noting)....

I have been a Hilton Honors member for years, and I never looked outside of that family when booking. Seems like there is a Hampton Inn every 10 miles- especially in the South, and nicer Hilton properties in big cities.
Over the years they have devalued their points so many times that its really not anything special anymore. I have a HHonors AMEX that accumulates points, and I get Diamond Status every year. But lately I have been seriously considering jumping to another brand with more point value.

Marriott.com unless there isn't one in the vicinity.

Then try Marriott. Book 4 nights w/points and the 5th is free. You can get a good hotel for 35K points. Sometimes for 25K. Hilton requires way too many points in general for their program to be a viable consideration. IHG (Holiday Inn) has a much better program than Hilton. They seem to have hotels in more locations than Marriott.

Whatever is decently rated and cheap on priceline
I've always been a priceline fan. They have always been easy to deal with if I've had issues and seem to always have the lowest prices for me. Even more so than booking direct with the hotel.

We are Hilton people and find that calling Hilton results in a better rate after on-line searches. Plus other perks like early checkin or late checkout.

Looks like we are the outliers in the thread, and I use Travelocity.
I pick my destination and bundle flight and hotel. And it’s always a better deal doing it that way than separate

Hotels.com here. Often times when I’m on a road trip I book a hotel 10 minutes before I roll into the parking lot.

Like to stay at different places. Hotwire filtered to 4 and 5 star hotels in certain areas of the city. Kayak if prices aren't excellent on Hotwire.

Come on over to Marriott.
Between Mrs Crickets and myself, we are Hilton Diamond and Marriott Titanium.
Marriott is the much better value and, IMO, has better choices of high end properties in desirable locations when you want to use points for vacation etc.

Hotels.com
Started using them a few years ago. I’ve accumulated about 80 “free” nights and like the fact that I’m not tied to just one particular hotel chain to use those at. Has come in handy for short weekend getaways with the fam.

Hyatt, via Transfer Chase ultimate rewards to Hyatt.... I could stay at some Hyatt’s for at least 2 months on points since cheapest is 5k

We usually go with Hyatt. Been World of Hyatt members for 4-5 years now.
Other than that, Booking.com if we just need a place to stay on a road trip.

Hyatt has best rewards program to get good value out of your points, and as mentioned above easy transfer from Chase. Hotels.com is best "free agent" site, as 10th night free is essentially 10% off booking instead of having to deal with points. Can usually find gift cards on sale, and use a shopping portal if you're really looking to stack. Booking sites and the hotel directly will usually price match too, so you can book at the site you actually prefer to use and just make them match the cheapest price.

I would agree with this, but to be fair, I’ve only used Marriott. So I can’t really compare with other properties.
I can say their reward redemption for high end properties work for us. I currently have 5 nights booked at the JW Maldives for an overwater bungalow all on points. That’s. $1k - $1,400 a night room that I have for 340k points. It really isn’t hard to get that many points if you work the promotions and have the CC
Whatever route you go, I suggest hammering one program and get the most instead of spreading it around.
