Motivating players was Dale Brown's principal skill as a coach. His in-game management was just horrendous, even during the good times of 1978-81. And generally his teams were undisciplined and turned the ball over at a dizzying pace. And never forget: it was Dale Brown who squandered the biggest lead in NCAA basketball history, by 31 points midway in the 2nd half, in an eventual loss to Kentucky in 1994.

Dale’s quote after that infamous flop “it was a bigger miracle we got up by 31 over Kentucky than blowing the lead”.

He also blamed Vernel Singleton having diarrhea on the radio postgame after blowing a lead late at home against Louisville and deflected to “it’s Christmas” so let’s not talk about this right now.

He’s a con man, albeit very well read and capable of worldly diversion to spin a narrative that fits his argument. Anyone with an IQ over 125 sees through his crap, those with less are often mesmerized with his spew.
