I thought about doing this on the Amite. Put in near 190 and get out at Fred's. Anyone ever do this? If so how long did it take? Any place to "legally" access the water? I know that area can be dangerous depending on water levels. It's about 12 miles in a straight line, so I figure its about 20ish miles following the river.

I'm sure it has been mentioned, but I used to canoe creeks and quite often you'd encounter fallen trees or generally impassable areas, meaning you have some portage time.

Done that Amite River trip as a Kids with canoe, 20+ years ago. River was slow and lots of paddling. Took like 16hrs.
Was not a fun 2nd half of day.

Myself and 4 buddies conquered Devils River for my bachelor party trip. 40 miles or so, non stop fishing/trip of a lifetime...took 4 days but could have easily done in it half the time if we were pressed.

How long does it take to kayak from the highland road park launch on bayou fountain to Fred’s in Port Vincent?

camped out on side of river for I forgot how many months as he made his way down. Smelled pretty bad but was an awesome dude
Wife had a family friend who did the same thing, was raising money for cancer. We put him up for the night in Baton Rouge... Maybe it's cheating, but picked him up on the levy south of the old bridge and locked his canoe to the dock, came back the next day with his brother who helped him navigate the rest of the way to Venice.

Devils river is on my to do list. I believe they have guadalope bass on that river.

I picked up a canoer about 5 years ago coming in from an overnighter tuna fishing just south of port eads in mid December. Put his kayak in the boat and rolled back to venice was crazy dude had started where the Mississippi was just a ditch. Camped out on side of river for I forgot how many months as he made his way down. Smelled pretty bad but was an awesome dude.
There are dozens of people that do this every year. I help a few out per year with groceries, water, lodging, etc... in Vicksburg. There are people all up and down the river that do this, including some around BTR and NOLA.
Several years back I hosted some guys (Rediscover North America crew) for a few days that were paddling UPriver. They were doing roughly 25 miles per day in the MS.

I just want to say,
I have paddled the Pee Dee River where it took me 4 hours to paddle 21 miles during a flood.
I have paddled the same stretch wher e it took me 17hours of paddling.
River flow has so much to do with it.

This, but also the type of kayak and gear. If you have a kayak built to cover distance you can go much faster.
If you are just taking a 12 ft basic fishing type of kayak with a cooler of beer and camping gear it slows you down more than you think.
I’ve probably done 150-200 Miles over the course of 30-40 different kayak trips and the most I’ve covered is maybe 15 miles a day. But I was never trying to cover miles, and 10+ miles is a lot of River miles on a kayak a day. I can’t imagine doing over 25 in a day unless it was just smoking fast down River.
It’s similar to hiking. There’s people that hike the app trail and avg 25-30 or more miles a day. That’s insane.

Additionally remember this.
You go faster as the trip goes on.
The heaviest thing we bring is beer. The more you drink, the lighter you get.
7guys bringing 10 cases of beer on a 3 night trip weighs approximately 126 lbs. also factor in the melted ice that you’ll toss out. It’s probably an additional 50 lb of ice.
You’ll be levitating over the water by trip’s end.
Realistically, though the last leg of your trip is the fastest die to pack weight loss unlesss you have some dude that picks up burl wood or something and thinks he can sell it at the furniture mart on Monday.
