My granddad passed away a couple of years ago and left me what appears to be a Martin custom shop acoustic. I've emailed Martin with a serial number to see if they have any spec sheet or anything on it but I haven't heard anything back. Is there any other way to look this up? I'm not looking to sell it by any means but I want to know what I'm dealing with and how to take care of it. I've played for about 20 years but the only acoustic I own is some shite Ibanez I bought when I was 15

This is a couple shots.

Start here ... Martin Serial Number Decoder

Is anything else written on the internal neck block ... the model number plus any suffixes?

Not a pic was posted.

Didn’t happen.

Just following the known rule, “pics or it didn’t happen”.

I'll post a pic tonight but no.

Martin logo
CUSTOM

Made in USA

Appears to be a 2013 from your link. I don't think it's anything super fancy but like I said, just hunting an idea of what exactly it is.

Straight on

Neck plate

Angled side

Headstock

A guy I work with said it looks a lot like his D28. A good friend of my Granddad is a HUGE guitar collector. I'm planning on calling him this weekend to see if he ever talked about it with him. I feel like he might have talked to him before he got it.

Very curious to see other answers.

D28 has a white/black/white purfling I believe. Also it has no center support strip of spruce on the inside.

Some custom reissue of a model made as it was in 19whenever?

I have a Martin D28 "Custom". I wanted to see what kind of options it had on it. I emailed Martin and they responded about 3 days later with the model number and the different options that were included. I just included the serial number with the request. It was the entire build sheet for the guitar. Not sure why they haven't emailed you back.

Don't look at me, I only know how to make them play their best haha. You guys know more about the individual models and features. I usually go by what I read on the block and/or what an owner tells me.

Martin sent me a sheet. D-14 platform is what it says? Indian rosewood back and sides. Black ebony bridge and fingerboard. It's like 3 pages long

The lack of the center support strip is kind of odd.

Can OP post a pic of the back and sides? Is it mahogany or rosewood or some other variation?

For comparison, here's a straight on view on my HD28 with a clearly visible center support strip.

Just seen OP's update.

I mean technically, originally the D28 was built on the "D14 platform" so this really just seems to be basically a D28 with a few variations.

I'd say its worth 2k-2500, IMO although I'm definitely not an expert.

As far as taking care of it, just your typical maintenance as far as solid wood guitars go as far as keeping them humidified and all.

I got the same thing from Martin. 3 pages of all the technical details on mine.

Solid Indian rosewood according to Martin.

Here's the soundhole.

So as a slight aside, anybody know anyone in NWLA that can go through this thing and do a proper setup and what not? My regular guy passed away.

Where’s the center strip on the inside? That’s messing me up and probably others on here. Was it a one of that your grandpa liked?
