Last Minute Trip To The Caribbean - What are the covid policies?

The wife and I have decided to take a trip towards the end of April and would like to go somewhere in the Caribbean. What islands are allowing travelers right now? Also, are all the islands requiring a covid test prior to coming back to the states. I don’t have an issue getting tested before we leave, but I would be a little nervous about testing again before coming back.

The USVI requires a negative covid test within five days of arrival.

A lot of places you'll be tested before you come back, if you test positive you'll be quarantined to your room until you can test negative. Be prepared that staying longer than your scheduled trip is a possibility. Something to look at and plan for.

Islands require a test to come to the islands. They don't care about your return trip. The United States government however does require that you get a test before returning to the US from out of the country. USVI is probably your best choice right now.

Effective?January 26, the?Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)?will require all air passengers two years of age and over entering the United States (including U.S.?citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three (3) calendar days of departure?, or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days. Airlines must confirm the negative test result or proof of recent recovery for all passengers prior to boarding. ?Airlines must deny boarding of passengers who do not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery.

Yep, your return trip to the USA is going to be your biggest obstacle to overcome. However, a lot of the resorts at these destinations are offering free COVID tests at the resort.

I think most people covered what is required as far as testing, but I will add you may want to reach out to any resorts/hotels you plan to stay at and asked them to point you to any government & property COVID rules.

We just got back from Turks and Caicos. Our resort tested us (instant test) a couple of days before departure. Our certificate was only verified at check in for our flight with no further verification at customs.
Had to get tested 5 days in advance of travel to TC with a molecular test. Also had to fill out a lengthy form and pay like $10 per person per day for some BS insurance product. Lots of scrutiny over documents at T&C customs.
All in all it was worth it. Really just a little added expense and prep time

That insurance is your only insurance if you get ill or injured on the island. Your US insurance policy isn't worth squat outside of the US.
You can call it BS but if you'd broken a leg you would have coverage unless it was a COVID only policy.

Have you tried googling, “Caribbean Covid restrictions”?
I’m guessing there is an article detailing every island what their current policy is.

We are heading to St. Croix next week. Covid test before you go. Mask in public places. I think most are ignoring the restrictions though. Booked snorkling trip, website said you had to wear a mask by order of the governor, on the boat. Called them, they laughed. According to USVI website today, 132 active cases in the entire USVI.

I hope it’s to Buck Island. If not, cancel and go to Buck Island.

A friend has an ecotourism company in Costa Rica and his American clients have had no problem getting covid tests before returning to the States. No covid test is required to enter Costa Rica, but you do need medical insurance to cover you if you get covid while there. I'm headed down there in early May.

Two different sets of friends that I know recently went to Mexico and said they slipped a doctor $25 for a negative test result.

Did the doctor happen to be in Mexico city and did they get a business card?

Or consider key west and don’t worry about covid tests either way

No, in Tulum. I hear it's not hard to find them though

We are going to Mexico city or tulum (i want mexico city) in early June. The only thing holding us back is the fear of being held back by a test which could easily be a false positive.

I’m in St Lucia now, you can’t the leave resort but all water activities are available. We did two fishing trips and a sunset cruise to break it up. You have to get a pcr covid test 3 days before your flight and another one three days before flying home. It’s still awesome to be in the Caribbean and off the grid for a week
