You are pretty clueless.
OP hasn't seen the show. He's asking for if he should watch all the way through, or if he should stop before the conclusion.
Season 5 is the last of the book seasons. Should he stop there?
Nobody argues that the conclusion is remotely satisfying, and even the OP has heard that take. But, they're not going to remake those seasons, so if you start a watch, you either cut off and leave everything in limbo, or you plug through.
There is no good end point beforehand, not on an initial watch. You can choose to stop early on a rewatch if stuff bothered you, but for the first time through, go ahead and catch it all.

There is a completely legitimate viewpoint that the ending, and really the entire last season, is so wholly unsatisfying that you’re better off not watching and imagining your own version, or just having someone tell you what happens rather than watch the shitshow that was put together. And that viewpoint has absolutely nothing to do with ‘it didn’t and the way you thought it would.’
That’s for OP to decide if/when he gets to that point. But you and anyone else with the ‘its not that bad, ppl are just mad they didnt predict the ending’ are not providing an accurate portrayal.
I think I would’ve been better off if someone just told me how things ended. Then I could’ve just wondered wtf they were thinking and hopefully just moved on without watching at all.

You should have told D&D that.

Familiarize yourself with the 7 Kingdoms and the Iron Islands.
Example-The Tyrells rule the Reach and their castle is called Highgarden.
Doing that will help you understand things going on in the first couple of seasons. There's a lot of discussion about the ruling Kingdoms before you see/meet them.
Seasons 1-4....A+
Seasons 5-7....B-
Season 8.....C-
The Battle of Winterfell is Season 8's saving grace. I thought it was very well done.

OP:
you know what, if you haven't heard the reasons why people got upset about the ending- and from the way your post reads, you don't know- go ahead and ignore this and any other threads and potential sources of information on the show, and just start watching.
It's extremely good for a very long stretch; and the less you know of plot details the more enjoyable it is.
Regardless of conclusion issues, it's one of the very best shows ever.

Imagine investing 70 hours watching an iconic show like GoT and not finishing the last season bc you heard the ending sucked.

FWIW, I'm not trying to be disingenuous about him watching the whole thing because the last season or two "isn't that bad." In fact, my very first post in this thread was agreeing with someone that said to watch the whole thing with the understanding that it falls off at the end. And I think that's pretty fair.
I'm also not saying, by any means, that I liked the final season. I agree with everyone talking about how rushed it all felt, and how the ends to some great characters fell flat (or were ridiculous). But I also do believe that there are some awesome moments even in the bad season(s) of the show at the end. Or at least I felt like they were pretty awesome when I watched.
I just find it hard to believe this:

With a show that (I assume) you absolutely loved up to a point, you would've been okay with not watching the rest and someone just telling you how it ended? I'm not saying you're lying or don't have the right to think that...it's just pretty hard to believe. One thing GoT does for most people that watch it is suck them into everything. I can't imagine anybody in their right mind would simply choose to stop watching with a season or two left and just read about (or ask about) how it ends.
That's madness to me.
Like others have said, why even start the show if you plan on abandoning it 3/4 of the way through? If you truly believe the show ends so horribly that it "ruins" itself, then why even start it? All that does is suck you in to the point you won't want to stop watching.

I’d say you’re in the minority still. Most viewers weren’t book readers (I’m not really either), but the last season was generally really disliked by most people I would say. At the very least most people would say it was huge letdown. I think the main complaint comes down to it being too rushed
How am I in the minority when what you typed is almost exactly how I feel about it?
It's DEFINITELY a let down, and waaaay too rushed. It's like they tried to cram a full two seasons into less than one.
And then you say this:
quote:
But OP should still watch it because most of the show was good, and you can’t just leave it hanging by not watching the end however dumb it was
Which is what I've said since my first post in the thread.

No it wasn’t. 6 had 3 of the Top 10 episodes IMO.
That moment when you think 2-3 flashy episodes make a great season.

Yep, those were the 3 I had in mind.

Season 6 is fantastic because it outperformed season 5 and setup for an incredible season 7 which ultimately fell on its face

You’re in the minority in thinking that the ending didn’t suck. Unless by ending, you’re referring to the entirety of season 8

What? The ending absolutely sucked.

Sort of. I'm just saying that while S8 is pretty bad, there are still some good parts of it. That's all. The literal ending sucks, but there are still good/enjoyable parts throughout the season.

Season 7 and 8 are still worth watching but it’s almost entirely a different show.
Season 7 was every bit as bad as 8, IMO.

Well I do, for one. Along with several people in the thread. You hated it and felt personally offended with how it ended. We get it. You’ve said it millions of times. But that doesn’t mean everyone else agrees with you. I thought it ended badly on some areas, but I also thought some of the endings for characters were also done pretty well. Also, your attachment to the books likely makes you feel betrayed somehow by the ending. Something tells me people who didn’t read the books were a lot less invested in how it ended and weren’t as offended.
That’s what my response was too.

To me, S8 fell apart in E4. I thought the first three episodes of S8 were great. The Night King’s dead army invasion was cool as shite. Great episode.
