Watch it all.
If the rest of us had to experience season 8, why shouldn't you?

Yep. After season 4 the show just gets tedious. 1-4 are some amazing TV though. Have rewatched several times.

Just watch the whole thing. It is probably not as bad for someone who waited years for a single season to come out or anticipated a new episode weekly while a season was happening.
Basically, the last couple of seasons smashes another 4 or so seasons worth of material together in a way that bypasses significant characterization and plot points.
Not as bad as some insist but definitely not worthy of the earlier seasons.

Watch as long as you're still interested?
It's not like Dexter or Mad Men, where there were earlier season finales that could have served as series finales. Nothing is resolved in GoT at the point where most of us think it went sideways.

What should I consider the finale if I want to enjoy it from beginning to end?
Watch the first 6 seasons, then wait 10-15 years until the final 2 books come out.

OP, another word of advice: ignore OML’s GoT posts almost universally. If he says you should do X, do the opposite. Also, people are already mentioning things in here that will spoil you, so if you choose to watch the show you may want to avoid the thread.

Who disagrees with me that the ending was a dumpster fire?

I'll go against the grain and give a specific stopping point. I'd say watch through season 8, episode 4. Actually, only the first part of that episode is worth the watch, but quitting in the middle of an episode is maybe carrying things a bit too far.
I don't think I could bring myself to re-watch the last two episodes. Everything before that had some quality and appeal for me (except that one Dorne episode, but no use skipping at that point). The last two episodes, though, I just can't find anything that would make me want to watch them again.

Hear me out- the ending made me angry, frustrated, wanted to yell "oh bullshite" the way it played out. A whole lot of people did.
People don't become so irrationally angry about something on a show or movie, unless it totally sucked them in to the point they were true "FANS", like hardcore, season ticket holders of sports teams.
A whole shite-ton of people became exactly that- I remember seeing watch parties in bars (ie the Bulldog), where the whole bar gathered and watched episodes like it was the home team playing a big game. Tons of people had watch parties in their houses with lots of people over, same concept.
And that doesn't happen unless the show is fantastic, special, whatever you want to call it.
When there's something that has that effect, you should take the opportunity to enjoy it.
As for not watching the ending- it's like a sports event... if your team made it to the finals, the championship, and I were to tell you they may lose- would you just not watch that game? Or would you watch and suffer, because you need to see what happens?

I’m serious, even highly sarcastic replies on how this could have ended are better than the actual ending. I haven’t heard one person come up with a worse ending sarcastically or otherwise.

OP don’t listen to these trolls wanting to torture you by suggesting you watch the whole series. At the very least, if you watch season 8 you will regret ever starting the show. Trust me, you don’t see anyone on here starting threads to do a re-watch like they do other highly regarded shows

Even season 8 had some good moments. There's no reason to start something like GOT unless you plan to finish it. There was only about 2-3 elements to season 8 that really conflicted viewers. If those elements went a different way people would have loved Season 8. I would tell the OP to not listen to those that are so butthurt that they can't handle it.

It been almost ten years already, no way he ever finishes.
No way he can finish in two books, he’s created a bigger mess than his “knot”, with his Northern slight of hand.
And their ending is his ending.
But I would still watch it all.

Stop trying to put flowers on dog shite. Season 7 and 8 is some of the worst television ever directed. It’s objectively bad and I question the intelligence of someone who tries to convince anyone otherwise. In fact, how many times have you watched season 7 and 8?
Posted on 2/24/21 at 6:59 am to 13SaintTiger
I've watched the entire series 3 times with latest watching wrapping up about 3-weeks ago so it's fresh in my mind. Your problem is you are so blinded by elements you don't like that you have zero objectivity.
In my re-watches, I tend to focus on the side stories and not dwell on the elements that I didn't like. I'm not going to get into specifics because I don't want to put a spoiler in this thread for the OP. I would be happy to discuss further in a Season 7 and 8 Thread and hash it out if you would like.
Like many shows that have long runs, the creative juices struggle to maintain the same momentum that earlier seasons had.
Don't get me wrong, the last few seasons weren't the best, but I won't invest my time in watching a series that I don't plan to finish at least once. The OP deserves the right to be as infuriated as people like you are. Why spare him of the rage?

Tiger is spot on.
Throw out the hyperbole of the thread and enjoy the series.
Treat it for what it is, a tv show.

You mean 2-3 elements per episode in season 8 on average, right? With the last 2 episodes heavily skewing that average?
Let’s not start pretending season 8 “wasn’t really that bad.” Game of Thrones was so popular because of the storylines and character arcs. It was legitimately terrible in terms of fitting in with the previous storylines, and completely destroyed the development and build up of basically every significant character.
The only justification for season 8 being “really not that bad” is if it’s viewed as a stand alone mini series with no connection to the previous seasons. The visuals are still fantastic for the most part. At that point you’re basically talking about a Michael bay movie, with much better acting. The story is complete nonsense but it’s still an entertaining watch.

Well I do, for one. Along with several people in the thread.
You hated it and felt personally offended with how it ended. We get it. You’ve said it millions of times. But that doesn’t mean everyone else agrees with you. I thought it ended badly on some areas, but I also thought some of the endings for characters were also done pretty well. Also, your attachment to the books likely makes you feel betrayed somehow by the ending. Something tells me people who didn’t read the books were a lot less invested in how it ended and weren’t as offended.
So why not let the OP watch it as intended (start to finish, every episode) and let him decide for himself? Instead, like always, you want to try to “guide” someone through their watching of something so they will see it how you see it. You did it in nonreader threads the whole time when it aired too, and we hated you for it.

That. All of that.
