re: 13-second Zion Williamson highlight sold for $100k : 'This is the future':

I dont buy that long term the highlight has any actual effect on the price fluctuation.
I think its just kinda similar to how better players would have more of a market in baseball cards. Like most people would rather have 1 of 1000 Freddie Freeman’s than 1 of 500 random AAA player who nobody has ever heard of. I think there’s a sweet spot where rarity and highlight popularity meet to determine value

I would not invest in this now because I wouldn’t wanna risk my money on the first website to try this. Others will probably come along that do it better. However I completely see the potential value in this because it’s literally exactly the same as a baseball card except not physical. But people don’t buy rare cards because they’re physical, they buy them because they’re limited and they wanna say they own one. This same concept could happen here, where someone wants to just say they own a first edition Trae Young logo 3 highlight asset (not sure what these highlights are called). You don’t own the highlight similar to how you don’t own the image on a baseball card, but you do own that particular asset which is unique due to the code behind it. It’s defiantly an abstract idea but it truly is not that different
Basically how I feel about this. At the prices some of the digital blocks are going for, I would still rather go physical vintage cards. Panini has ruined modern sports cards, so it would be nice for something to shake up that market

investing into S1s is like investing into 1950s Topps baseball cards
i kept a tight lip on that throughout the thread, because i didnt want to draw much attention to the obvious 50 IQ play
i was able to accumulate several S1s for under $10 dollars over the past few weeks.
every single one of these moments is now over $100
have fun staying poor

Where do you see the price going on these? I like the idea, but I don't see the current prices as stable. I am looking at a low serial number Bruno Fernando thats going for over 1000 dollars. I have a very very hard time thinking anyone would want that after the current investment bubble bursts

S1s will not lose value. barely any were minted and just like all collectors items the first series is highly sought after by investors
as I said last week the S2s are frothy so id stick to the better players if you go that route
just imo

I bought 3 packs in late January for a total of $21. I then sold those moments to get more packs, cheap moments etc. My account is now valued at over 10K. Off of $21.
I had my doubts, but everything points to it being more than just a 'scam'. It's insane what is going on in that market place right now. Wish I had gotten in last year.
FWIW I'm also in to sports cards but this is a lot easier to deal with.

So the higher the serial number x the rarity of the highlight = Higher value?
Starting to understand a but but its still weird how people are paying this type of money but the highlight is never owned. The NBA still owns the digital highlight

Anyone calling this a scam is very ignorant.

We are in a heavy bull market right now, and this sector hasn't had to deal with any adversity yet. That's why I'm hesitant to get in to it right now.

I’m willing to throw a few hundred at this ridiculous trend. If TikTok dances can become popular, this definitely can. All of the packs are sold out. When do you get alerted there are new packs available? If I sign up will I get that alert?
Posted on 2/22/21 at 12:47 pm to UnluckyTiger
You can provide an email to get an alert when the new packs are available.
But the money to be made is buying/selling the series 1 packs on the marketplace.

I've spent $100 so far and my account value just crossed $7200. There are some concerns I still have, but for the time it would be really hard not to profit.

So I already missed the gold rush? I just saw series 2 were sold out. Assuming series 3 is next?
Posted on 2/22/21 at 1:29 pm to UnluckyTiger
They are going to drop more series 2 packs. That specific release was sold out. You haven't missed out yet. The key to jumpstarting now I would think is to luck up and get a pack when they release. They are only $9 for now and you get several hundred dollars of value in there.

They are letting things marinade a little bit. They make 5% on transactions so that's where their real money is made anyway.

and the fact it is still in beta gives me hope. Sounds like it’s just like the early crypto underground before it really took off. Is it a draft to get selected to have the option of buying a pack or is it a free for all like trying to get tickets off of Ticketmaster for a concert?

Brilliant marketing. Would be searching high and low for threads concerning this and send out folks to hype it up.
