Exactly what I did. Built our house a year ago. Antique light fixtures, USA made appliances, wood, and a lot of my labor. Got granite countertops for $5 from the habitat store new and built the bath vanities of cherry from a local independent sawmill.

Yeah, the local sawmills are good for finding some nice lumber and you can get some great deals. I have a pretty nice pile of beautiful cedar, that is almost purple that I bought from a local guy. Whole trailer load of different size cuts and a few 4" x10"x 10' beams, 80 bucks for the whole load. Got to decide what to do with it now.
