Hopefully Mason chooses to coach with Beamer and we can get the better guy

Three factors ultimately will decide his landing place, Mason said, the first being “commitment and resources.” If “commitment” means money then South Carolina should be in good shape. Beamer, who is the lowest-paid head coach in the SEC at $2.75 million per year, was promised during his interview process that he would have all the resources needed to hire assistant coaches.

“Right now, I’m listening to everybody and trying to take it all in,” Mason said. “I’ve had some good conversations with some good people, and the biggest thing for me is making sure I’m finding the right fit. I know Shane Beamer is an excellent coach, an excellent teacher. I’m trying to make sure I can recharge my batteries and make sure I make decisions with a clear head so I can do the right job wherever I go.”

Watch O is gonna hire someone like Tommy Tuberville

I think Tuberville is busy right now.

Senator Tuberville?
Clearly I jest, but you know if he wasn't just elected O would call him.

I hear you. The concern of going back to a Bo-type hire will be there until we see otherwise.

Who would want a coach who feels like he needs to “recharge his batteries”? The guy is burned out. I’ve felt like that going into a new job exactly one time in my life and it was a disaster, he should take a year or so off if he feels that way

As a Carolina fan I'd be thrilled with Mason. I hope like hell we get him. His defenses were really good at Stanford. And his defenses played hard at Vandy, outmanned as they were.

Any smoke still at LSU about Mason or has that passed?

Seems like if LSU were going to hire DM it would have already been announced, unless they are talking to multiple different candidates before deciding (which they should be).

we are not going to be in a rush, we will wait to interview candidates. I think Mason is a top 3 candidate right now, but I have no sources, just basing it off of the pay board info and other things I have seen.

hopefully us waiting will push him to SC. it would be bad for us if Mason is top 3 very very bad

Can you give some reasons why? I thought he was highly thought of pre vandy?
I have not researched the DC position near as much as OC.
I knownhe is mutiple and can run a bunch of different schemes. Can he recruit? Is he aggressive?

Anecdotally, I saw that LSU-Clemson replay with commentary Mike Gundy, Gary Patterson, then-OSU DC-now-BC HC Jeff Hafley and Derek Mason...
-Gundy & Hafley impressed me the most.
-Patterson talked like a know-it-all but actually Gundy & Hafley were more aware/attune & accurate of what LSU was doing
-Mason appeared like he was guessing.
Hell, Mason could be the next Bill B, but from that interaction, he just seemed like a 3rd Wheel to the Big Boys.
