The actual wording of it was patronizing and idiotic. The author called her kiddo, apropos of nothing. It was definitely designed to get clicks and generate reactions.
So basically you have no problem with that exact same style of journalism so long as it is reporting on someone you don't like, or being broadcast by a "journalist" of a specific political party that you do like? But when it's relating to someone/an entity that you do agree with then patronizing language and selective wording is wrong?

How was he "cancelled"?
He hadn't taught there in years.

DDS? LOL. I mean, they certainly are better educated than chiropractors and most education Ph.D. holders, but hold your horses comparing them to M.D. and D.O. holders. Dentists are lower on the totem than podiatrists.
Found the anti-dentite, the next thing you know you’ll be saying they deserve their own schools as well?

Clown take. Family member has a PhD in some prehistoric Colombian foolishness. He can say for sure..
He spent a small fortune.
He was able to master a subject after studying it for 8 years straight.
Other than that, absolute grade A foolishness. Titles - all titles - are nothing more than ego salve.

Agreed, with the caveat that you clarify that you aren’t an MD.
Doctor is viewed almost exclusively nowadays as a “medical” title.
Ok physician.

But I literally heard media saying “Jill Biden is a doctor”, or “She’s a doctor”...no, she’s a PhD. (That teaches elementary school)
She's not even a PhD. She's lower. She a EdD.

I mean Whoopi fricking Goldberg said she should be Surgeon General. The media does try to push her as an actually Doctor
She literally calls her a “great doctor” LINK

Not sure how you gleaned that from what I said. I'd object to the author's tone for anyone. The article itself is meandering and rather stupid. If the argument is, people who don't hold medical titles shouldn't call themselves doctors, fine, but Mr. Epstein goes further and says the Ph.D has seen eroding standards, which isn't true in my experience. I'm getting an MD/Ph.D at the moment, and I don't see the eroding standards personally. Nor did I see them when I investigated pursuing a Ph.D in West Asian History, where the programs suggested fluency in Arabic, Persian, French and German (and possibly Turkish if you were working in later periods) before you could take oral examinations.
Again, I have no idea how you gleaned what you wrote from my original statement.

It was a perfectly reasonable take.
It was a terrible take, “doctor” is an educational attainment, not a profession.
Going by “doctor” in non-professional setting (regardless of your profession) is pretty douchey, but not for the reasons that the writer brought forth.

This transcends politics. Dr Seb Gorka, Dr Michael Savage, Dr D David Schultz.

Yes, of course you can refer to a professor or someone with a PhD as Dr. ____, but you don’t say, “they’re a doctor”,
This is the crux of the argument that always pops up from time to time. In English we typically refer to physicians and surgeons generically as “doctor.” However, the original usage of doctor comes from academia and means teacher. So in the truest sense of the word, a professor is the only “real” doctor.
It’s kind of like referring to a medical doctor as a scientist. Sure, they have a lot of medical science knowledge but rarely does a typical MD/DO “do” science.
The real problem is the plethora of doctorate programs that have emerged in various fields. For example, Jill Biden has an Ed.D. and not a PhD in Education. The achievement is quite different, yet the average person probably is none the wiser.

It is an opinion piece. She has an EdD which in my experience isn't as well respected among PhDs.

Same here. I’m guessing we went to the same middle school. Probably just a few years apart. I think she was still working on her PhD when I took her class.

Well considering that piece was written in the same style as almost any other article these days commentating on people/situations, I don't see how this one can be so bad, unless you really don't appreciate his opinion on Jill Biden. If you want to get a masters go for it and bona furtuna and good luck. As for the erosion of the reputation of PhD, and the likes, in America in current times, I would suggest that basically every degree is seeing erosion in standards and perception.

Scruffy would wager that if you took a poll of US citizens, at minimum, 50% would think she were an MD.
This is the problem with a lot of NPs and PAs calling themselves doctors in healthcare settings. Quite a few patients will think they’re physicians that are seeing when it’s not always the case.

Has he made her Secretary of Education in his cabinet yet?

Yeah we are probably several years apart. One of my least favorite classes. Took herself too seriously.
She was a big Saints and Bama fan though.
