BELIEVE THE SCIENCE!
It is pretty funny to hear people reference the CDC recommendations but forget even they said non-N95 type masks are worthless back in March.

I go to stores and not wear a mask. People look at me but a mask isn't stopping shite and I always forget one so it's life like normal for me.
Had a greeter at Home Depot hand me a mask yesterday and said to put it on. I shoved it in my pocket and kept on. A cop was there too and didn't say anything. It's ridiculous. I may get COVID but it won't be because I didn't wear a mask.

I’m not changing my life for something with a 99.7% survival rate.
Let's assume 99.7% is correct, that's about 1 in 300. If 1 in 300 planes crashed and killed everyone on board, would you get on an airplane?
I'm not saying we should be "scared to death" or whatever, but it's not something to ignore, either. Get some perspective.

Friend,
N95 masks are obviously the standard, but surgical masks do reduce the amount of spread of particles from your mouth and nose. There is also good research that shows it does protect the wearer. More than anything, though, the purpose of the surgical mask is to protect others, which any good citizen would want to do.

Tough argument to use on a board where 75% of people brag about not wearing them

On average, there are 6 million wrecks per year and 38000 deaths.
0.006333 deaths per wreck.
There are 13,822,249 COVID cases and 272,525 COVID deaths currently.
0.0197 deaths per case.
So for the average American that experience either, you are 3.1 times more likely to die from COVID. But that assumes that all death as attributed to COVID are actually from COVID, and pretty much no one buys that anymore. It also assumes all COVID cases have been documented, which is also a laughably bad assumption.
This also doesn't address that COVID is a one time thing, and car wrecks will always be a threat as long as cars exist, so the rate they kill Americans is actually much higher than what is shown by these numbers.
ETA TL;DR frick your fear mongering bullshite stat

Yet some studies have shown the opposite is true.
Washing your hands will protect you more than a mask. Humans are walking germ factories mask or no mask. Washing your hands is the most effective thing you can probably do.

Pretty easy to make though when this virus still rolls through countries that wear masks religiously though. I believe Al Gore calls that an inconvenient truth.

thats the thing about masks and the mandates though
on an individual level, they work to some degree
2 people wearing masks reduce chances of exposure on a 1 on 1 level
but when you look at it at on a population level, it obviously doesn't work
people don't wear them correctly, people don't wear them 24/7, we don't wear them around family and friends, not all masks are effective as others, etc
there are just so many variable that go into human activity/movement, that it is impossible to mandate away risks

Would be neat if the people making decisions could figure this out.

Like I said, washing your hands is the best thing you can do to protect yourself short of staying home 24/7

They know it. This is theatre. Its why so many of them are getting caught not abiding by their own "rules".
This entire thing has just delved into one big emotional appeal.

You're right, I should have said "would make decisions that align with what should be an obvious truth." Most of these people can't actually be that stupid, except for Destroya. She is that stupid.

That's not how you calculate which the average American is more likely to die of tomorrow. All you have done is compare survival rates. You have factored out the relative rates of incidence, which is pretty fricking critical.

3,000 people died on 9/11 and everyone got right in line and signed away our privacy for the rest of time.
240k+ people die from Covid and you stupid fricks spend 9 months bitching about masks and pretending you're trained virologists instead of just listening to the actual experts.
