Gainesville trip advice

So we've booked our room in Gainesville and have already paid for our tickets.
We are leaving Thursday evening and staying with a buddy in Fairhope, AL that night to cut the Friday drive time down. We want to play golf on Friday. So...
Is there a can't-miss course in or near Fairhope, or would it be best to continue on down to Pensacola or Tallahassee or further? Don't really want to have to go down to Destin - would rather somewhere closer to the interstate. Any suggestions?

There's a few options...
Rock Creek is right there in Fairhope and very nice. Might also want to check out Steelwood in the Loxley area.
Lakewood at the Grand Hotel has 36 holes as well. Havent played it since the hurricane though...
I beleive the Moors in the P'cola area is right off the interstate. They play a senior tour event there.

Be very careful about some of the small towns around Gainesville. Some of the residence may see you and comment about you having a purty mouth. If you hear that - get the hell out of there.

Robert Trent Jones golf trail. Have courses in Mobile, Point Clear, and Dothan.

Just continue on to Jacksonville and tee off at TPC Sawgrass.

Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee's pretty nice. It's a newer course in a part of town that resembles the Truman show... There aren't a lot of good course's in the traingle east of Destin/Panama City, west of Jacksonville, north of Gainesville.

I was thinking about Sawgrass or King & Bear at the World Golf Village/World Golf Hall of Fame.

What is the fall/winter greens fees at Sawgrass?

Have fun. I plan on making a trip to 11 SEC stadiums. Guess which one I won't be visiting?
UF = my most hated SEC school just because of their fanbase.

Like $350 all year round. You have to have a tee time in advance.
Sawgrass like nothing else. Ubelievable experience. If you can get on at Sawgrass, bring your A game. You'll need it.
Was able to attend Players this year and got to play on the Monday after. Just can't do it justice by posting about it.
BTW, they'll provide you with a Sawgrass bag tag engraved w/ your name on it.

Don't start drinking when you get to Florida.
Stop at FSU and drive around.
Have fun.

There are some nice golf courses in the Jacksonville area - including the afore mentioned TPC at Sawgrass and the two courses at the World Golf Village. Jax has a number of less expensive courses (50 bucks or less), that are very good, as well.
Jacksonville is just a little over an hour from Gainesville, so many Tiger fans will be staying there - especially those who are flying. If you are in Jacksonville Friday Night, the Landing, downtown, is a good place to hang out if you want to run into other Tiger fans.
Keep your drinking confined to the tailgating areas and bars. Last year, there was a large group of LSU tailgaters back behind the O'Connell Center.
