BR Golf Stat from 225- lsu13lsu related

225 magazine says we have 5.25 golf courses for every 100,000 residents which is more than any other peer city besides Birmingham. Cited a 2020 city stats report from the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.
I'd love to know what they consider peer cities and their breakdown of good golf courses v bad golfers and pricing, etc.
But as a lawyer, I feel compelled to share all evidence with the otherside, even if it is bad. @lsu13lsu you're welcome.

So what’s their point? Are they complaining about the number of courses?

We all know that is the deal. It's just not necessary to write a dissertation on it every time someone asks what kind of shape any course is in.

This is pure hyperbole. I only bring up when relevant and many times you guys bring me into it. I have only wanted to help and figured if we all knew the facts we could organize and do something to help. But, everyone is so emotional and wants all the courses open.

Then why is there so much confusion when a course closes or is in such bad shape?

From BRAF's point it is probably a selling point. We have a lot of amenities. I don't now their context, honestly.
But, from a golf business standpoint it isn't a good thing. Basic supply and demand.

It's not confusion. People just say it sucks for them because they are a member or just nostalgic about the place and you launch into a supply / demand lecture.

Golf courses inside the city of BR:
City Park
LSU
Webb
Golf courses in the parish but not in BR:
Santa Maria
Beaver Creek
U Club
CCL
BRCC
Dumas
Clark
Copper mill
Fenwood
BR has an estimated population of 230,236. That would equal over 10 golf courses for the city.
EBR has an estimated population of 450,059. That would mean we have over 20 golf courses if they are using parish numbers.
5.25 courses per 100K population is fuzzy math.
Edited with 13’s help

My guess is Parish courses, city numbers.

If you google
City Stats 2020 Baton Rouge area foundation you can find the report. It tells you it is based on parish numbers but I cannot recalculate it. Maybe because people in EBR play courses in neighboring parishes they loop those in?
As long as they are calculating other cities same way then it is apples to apples but who knows.
They were using 2019 population of 440k for EBR
If you add
Pelican Point 2 courses
Island (may have been considered open)
Westside (may have been considered open)
Greystone
Bluffs
Pines at Denham
It gets closer and EBR ppl play(ed) those
Courses.

Throw in Celebration Station and Don Carter then.
The fact is if you use our population and just our population you can’t open up the numbers to out of parish courses unless you consider their population too unless it’s all propaganda. But yes, I know; it’s all propaganda.

Yeah. I have no idea what they did. Maybe Johnny Law will email them to get calculation.

Are they counting just BR Proper or are they taking into consideration EBR and surrounding parishes that all come in to play?

According to BRAF, they are counting all public and private golf courses:
That would include at least the following list:
City Park
LSU
Webb
Santa Maria
Beaver Creek
U Club
CCL
BRCC
Dumas
Clark
Copper Mill
Fenwood
My guess is they also counted:
Greystone
Pelican Point x2
Howell Park
The Island
The Bluffs
Carter Plantation
The Pines at North Park
Assuming a Parish population of 440,000ish, it would take 22ish golf courses. That's the only way I can get to that number.
Also, for the purposes of this, our peer cities are Jackson and Birmingham. So we have more golf than Jackson, but less than Birmingham, per 100,000 people. That isn't as good as it originally sounded considering we only have two peer cities.

It’s all propaganda.
They count courses inside of the entire metro area which conducts of nine parishes but only the population of one, That’s my guess.
EBR
WBR
Pointe Coupe
Iberville
Ascension
Livingston
E Feliciana
W Feliciana
St Helena
The population of those parishes was just over 800K in 2010 but they are apparently looking at EBR only to get their numbers to work.

Yes, they were not doing the calc for investment purposes. They were doing it for propaganda purposes. As a promotion for the area. So you can see why they did it the way they did it.

Correct and exactly why any of their other studies should be carefully analyzed and put into proper context.

Do they have any other golf studies?
