Appalachian would be stupid to move up and it is NOT happening soon.
why go from contending in a national championship every year to playing in the podunk cottonelle toilet paper bowl at the end of the season.
as far as money making goes we have the highest attendance in the FCS and make the most money.
We still don't have that big of a stadium. We need to do several things before a jump to FCS would happen. The track needs to be taken out and the field level dropped to allow more seats...like BYU and OSU have done in the past.
We also need more hotels and making it more accessible to get into Boone.
We will not jump to a small conference, it makes no sense for us...We are already beating those schools in recruiting because there just isn't much appeal for those low conferences.
Being better in the FCS is MUCH better than being middle of the road in FBS.
if/when we move up it will be only if we have an offer from a prestigious conference...ie ACC/Big East.
But a lot needs to be done before that happens, including the other sports being contenders, which we are on our way.

And sharing profits in a conference at the I-A level = mo money. Especially if it's a BCS conference.

You will do whatever the financial experts tell you to do. If you don't believe that some guys aren't in some war room crunching numbers, trying to do some sort of financial projections to determine if joining a smaller conference (or being independent) for a short time while pay off in the long run because it will allow you to join a BCS conference years from now, then you are crazy. And don't worry, there are marketers involved who are already finding ways to keep the fans happy while everything seems to be in disarray. Playing in CUSA, with a big time OOC conference schedule, winning the conference and going to the Podunk Bowl will generate more money than you think.

This is nowhere close to being accurate. It may be better for Joe Fan, but it's not where the school wants to be if it doesn't HAVE to.

I predict you would be an IND (or join a smaller conf) for the first 3-5 years. You have to prove that you can sustain the requirements to remain in I-A.
All of these comments are just my opinion.

Thank god we have forward looking people, such as Charlie Cobb and Ken Peacock and not members of the old gaurd like you running the show.

You're not going to get more hotels...because there is NOWHERE to put them. We are getting one more as of right now on 105 supposedly but there is no more room. We've already got a bajillion anyway. If you are speaking of the roads (421 and 321), 321 is looking pretty good right now since they are fixing it. They are going to start widening 421 in front of New Market and the rest of that area soon.

I don't agree with you there. I LOVE being #1, don't get me wrong, but even middle of the road in the FBS is better because you still get more exposure and more money.

Appalachian State is the top dog in D-1AA (or whatever the goofy new name is.Way to go NCAA.
) You do get 'March Madness' already. I know Marshall has done reasonably well and to a degree,so has Troy.But,you guys have a good thing going over there. Don't ask me why,but Ryan Perriloux's new school ,Jacksonville State,is adamant about pursuing D-1 in football. They are lucky to get 4,000 to a home game. They have,gulp, "Troy Envy" ,since they were big rivals back in the day.Now,ASU is 500x more legit as a 'D-1' program as Jax State,but ,still,I think you have a good thing going.
