Ironically, a lot of the pro runners I follow were furious on social media about how no one was taking covid seriously and how more precautions needed to be taken.

I'd almost guarantee we see liberal politicians get involved with the lectures of equity and equal outcomes.

Cross country doesn't seem like it would be a huge drag on the budget.

better solution than dropping sports would be to use conferences for football only and maybe basketball.
It makes sense for Texas Tech to go to Morgantown for a football game. Sending Temple to New Orleans for a volleyball game, not so much.
I really like this idea.

After the economic meltdown of 07...Duval County looked to cut cross country from HS as a budget saving measure. That was 22 teams and the total budget was ...apx 76k a yr

Being a track guy this kills me to see programs go like this. My college track experience wa who early one of the things that shaped me the most.
Then be happy they survived a decade longer than my sport did at Clemson. Over 90% of Clemson's olympic medals came from track or swimming.

Title IX is going to devastate programs because they have to cut both equally.
Without Title IX, they'd just cut all the useless women's sports that nobody watches and keep the men's version.

The Clemson head coach is an LSU graduate. He was my son’s distance coach and the assistant HC at LSU before taking the HC kid at Clemson.

Have nonrevenue sports play for a state championship. Then the state champs go to a regional that covers 6-8 states. Then the regional champs play for the natty.
That way there are no travel costs.
This is a great idea...it’s also close to how things used to be done prior to superconferences. The original SEC, SWC, Metro, ACC, etc.

I think a baseball conference of all Louisiana D1 college teams would be awesome, and it doesn’t even have to include LSU

That's the way it is for cross country
Not every place though can host a 8 or 10k cross country event. But except for nationals...we took a school van everywhere
And even then its now 6....8 meets a yr

Title IX doesn't care about how many people watch a sport. That was never the point. Title IX is only about giving women the same opportunities men get thru sports.
College athletics isn't supposed to be about your enjoyment watching football (although I love it!) and being a feeder program for the NFL. College athletics is supposed to be about the opportunity to learn personal growth, leadership, time management, determination, etc., by the experiences you gain thru participating. That's why even the tiny D3 schools have programs. If it was only about the NFL and NBA feeder programs, then why do other schools even bother?

Hope you don't ever have a daughter that wants to play any sports whatsoever. Before T IX, there were pretty much no girls sports team at much of any level. No little girls playing soccer, softball, volleyball...it was almost non-existent. I grew up before Title IX. I see the different.
It's only a disaster to you because you are only thinking of what it costs in football and basketball. It's a fabulous success for women all over the country who would never have been able to play sports without it.

They really couldn’t take a little from Dabo’s 9 mill salary to keep them afloat? You’ve seen Clemson’s facilities they aren’t exactly hurting for cash right now. It’s sad that these programs are being cut.

You’re assumption is completely incorrect. My issue is the affect it has on the smaller men’s sports. For example women’s tennis gets about double the scholarships men’s tennis does. Similarly men’s soccer gets hardly any scholarships compared to women’s. So if you’re a male and you don’t play football or basketball you have very little chance of getting a full scholarship for another sport. Also women’s sports bring in virtually no revenue and are completely dependent on football for their survival, so like I said Title IX sounds fair in great in theory but in practicality screws over the majority of male sports and is a big financial hit to athletic departments

The only women's head count sports are tennis, gymnastics, and volleyball. In everything else, most athletes are only getting a portion of a full ride.
Only football and basketball bring in money, depending on the program. If that's the only reason to play and the only reason for scholarships, just cup it all. Only have men's basketball and football. You know that unless you're talking about head count sports, the great majority of athletes are getting half or less scholarshipped. Men's sports get cut because the school gives all their money to football. I am not making an incorrect assumption. I'm looking at it a different way from you.
I'd flip it and say if it weren't for Title IX, if you are a woman you'd have almost no chance of getting any athletic scholarship. And how are they different from that soccer player or guy gymnast? Or any swimmer and diver, since those programs have been cut like crazy lately.
I love my football, but massive amounts spent on stadiums, gyms, lockers rooms, etc. is the reason your soccer program gets cut.
Just do football like all the rest of the sports. Limit the full rides.
