Not to thread hijack, but what about Ninety-Six/Greenwood? Bought property in Ninety-Six.

Seems to be an hour away from every city mentioned in this thread. Also moving from Fairhope, AL. Realtor was very snooty and said "Why do you care about schools? Aren't all the schools bad in Alabama?"

Ninety-Six is a pretty rural area. Right near Lake Greenwood and the Saluda River. You're not far from Greenville, Aiken/Augusta or Columbia. I'd live out that way if I could. As for schools, I'd imagine Ninety-Six schools would be better than Greenwood schools, if only for the demographics of each community. There are private schools in Greenwood and Edgefield, which isn't much further than Greenwood depending on where you live.

Not been mentioned here yet, but very cool family bike trails that take you from the Greenville Zoo out to the Swamp Rabbit trail and café, and on to Furman. Very pretty- not sure of safety of these trails after dark. Someone from the area can chime in.

Nice quiet place if that's what you're looking for. Greenwood is kind of trashy, but not a big deal if you're just heading there to buy groceries and such.

If you're looking for things to do, you'll have to drive up to Greenville or down to Columbia.

If I'm living in that part of the upstate, I'm living in Landrum like someone else suggested.

3 hrs 15 minutes to Folly Beach. Longer to the Horry and Georgetown County beaches because there's no interstate.

26 to 20 and then 301 and 501/22.

And depending on what part of Greenville you start your trip in, you’re looking at 4 hours minimum.

Landrum is very cool. However for us, it is too far from the grand-kids in Fountain Inn.

Where did you buy? I live in Simpsonville off Scuffletown. Always excited to have another LSU fan.

We bought in a subdivision called Verdmont. Off of Harrison Bridge Road. Publix is a mile and a half away!

SC has no such law. Maybe a rule on some State public ground, but not otherwise.

Oh nice. Traffic on Fairview is brutal so just watch out. Other than that, it is a great area. My parents live right down the road. There is a place called Southern Catch which has crawfish and other stuff from Louisiana. It is good but not like BR.

How far of a drive to the beach? Is there alot of hiking/outdoor trails near? Property taxes high? Low crime?

Pretty bad drive to almost all of the SC coast from anywhere....no interstates except to Charleston.

Greenvile seems like it'd be a good small town. Supposed to be booming economically. Close enough to Atlanta and Charlotte if your bent that way

My parents love Southern Catch. They live in Clear Springs off Scuffletown and we live over in Coachman Plantation. Good to know there are some super locals here if you ever get in a pinch.
