Can you explain this in simple terms for me?
Very cool video

From when the pilot released the brakes, hit the after burner and we started rolling.

My high school friend is a pilot and has been for 30 years. He claims he got scrambled from belle chase on night...some big threat in New York...
Apparently they get special orders for serious stuff where the limits of speed are taken off. He said he got there in like 22 minutes
New York is 1,160 miles from New Orleans. He'd have to AVERAGE 3,163 mph to do that.[/quote
Several other bases much closer would have had that call]

Called a “ shite hot takeoff”.
I remember years ago some pilot was showing off for his parents by performing this maneuver.
His parents watched him frick it up, crash, and die.

I think the one thing about that job that makes me most jealous is the view at night above the clouds must be incredible.

The volleyball games are a nice selling point, too.

No offense, but I call BS on your friend. Pre-9/11 we landed at the FBO in Gulfport. Two very tiny (not much larger than a car) NASA jets landed right behind us. Our pilot is retired USAF and told us that those jets were some of the fastest, and they made it from Houston to Gulfport in 18 minutes.

That's common, takeoff with an unrestricted climb. The g's aren't much to speak of though. Here's a video of me in the backseat going brake release to 15'k in about a minute in an F-15E. F-15E
So.....damn.....jealous
Lucky vantage ;)

One of the cool things about being around an Airforce base is that you never know what you are going to see.
Barksdale had a couple of T-38s training a week or two ago which was different because there is no fighter wing at Barksdale. They were around for a week or so.
Friday morning I saw an E4 coming in on approach to Barksdale. It was completely white and didn’t have tail markings or any markings at all.
That’s a doomsday plane if you know what that is.

Unless you are taking off from a airfield were the perimeter security is unknown, you want altitude separation away from possible rockets or small arms fire as fast as possible so you practice that.
That tells me you are more likely a pilot or former pilot than

Because no pilot I know needs to practice going fast straight up and pushing it over at flight level 50. That is the justification but its nonsense.

I saw it go on most of the afternoon. Those are F15's. I was about a mile southwest of the runway and got some decent pics.

That’s still 1000 miles-ish.

That 22 minutes story sounds very suspect on many levels

Yes it does. I went to an Air Show at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah years ago. There was an F-15 from Eglin there. I asked the pilot if he had to get back to Eglin ASAP, how long would it take. His reply was, "Breaking a few windows, 15 minutes."
It's approximately 325 miles as the crow flies between those two bases.

Damn, apparently even some huge planes can pull this off as well.
C-17 Globemaster Unrestricted Climb
Not quite as drastic of a climb, but impressive nonetheless.

Small, medium, and large today. Not a great shot through the windshield though.
