Covid infection rates are rising in every European nation except one. Can you guess which?

Shocking! It’s SWEDEN
Associated Press article.
Sweden’s covid19 strategy is one of the greatest displays of public health leadership and political leadership in the history of the continent, maybe the world
Books will be written about it, awards and prizes should be given.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — A train pulls into the Odenplan subway station in central Stockholm, where morning commuters without masks get off or board before settling in to read their smartphones.
Whether on trains or trams, in supermarkets or shopping malls — places where face masks are commonly worn in much of the world — Swedes go about their lives without them.
When most of Europe locked down their populations early in the pandemic by closing schools, restaurants, gyms and even borders, Swedes kept enjoying many freedoms.
The relatively low-key strategy captured the world’s attention, but at the same time it coincided with a per capita death rate that was much higher than in other Nordic countries.
Now, as infection numbers surge again in much of Europe, the country of 10 million people has some of the lowest numbers of new coronavirus cases -- and only 14 virus patients in intensive care.

No question. Can you imagine the set of balls Anders Tegnell, their state epidemiologist, must have to have made the call he made? When things looked bleak and everyone in the world was panicking and going in the other direction, they stood fast and stayed the course. I admire them for their clear thinking and their courage.

Probably because Sweden had two light previous flu seasons, whereas the other Nordic countries had normal flu seasons when it came to deaths.

Yes, about 20 percent of population will get infected one way or another.
Let’s also not pretend Sweden let everyone have a free for all
“Gatherings were capped at 50, and congregating at bars was banned.”
“Swedes were asked to work from home when possible and maintain a social distance, and most willingly complied.”

You're right, but they also didn't shut down school for those under 15 either.
And even people in this country were altering their behavior before any official lockdown orders.

Yes, shutting down schools was stupid. Shutting down colleges was worst decision by far. Let the young healthy people be and keep them at the college.
Would have gotten to the 20 percent that way with MUCH less mortality and opened up faster.

Sweden screwed up isolating nursing homes.
Their government and chief epidemiologist acknowledged that.
Otherwise, they did great.
You'd never see our government acknowledge a frick up.
Ever.
That's why they're pushing mask bullshite. To try and blame "non mask wearers" when they fricked up.

No.
They complied with a logical, well articulated strategy.
I'm not going to listen to people like Destroya who are too fricking stupid to do their taxes.
Big freaking difference.

A Sweden thread without hot T&A. Sad!

I mean. Aren’t the Swedes super duper healthy and skinny like? Seems like they, on average, have far fewer health issues so they would deal better regardless of what “social practices” they enforced.

do us all a favor and move there.

I think most people wrongfully assume school shutdowns are strictly to protect kids

Covid kills fat and unhealthy people.
The US is the most obese country on the world. Sweden is 96th
It's not complicated.

Keep the kids at the college. Actually safer for parents and grandma that way

MOST people in Sweden could NOT work from home. Therefore, life went on pretty much as normal. Those that could most certainly (probably) complied. Still, my guesstimate is that 3/4 of the country still had a semblance of normalcy.
Lastly, I feel that this was a sensible request by their government, But not a mandate.
They seem to trust the medical advisors to their leaders. As such, they probably trust their properly informed governmental officials.
Meanwhile, in Louisiana, we had this guy:
Dr. Alexander Billioux.
Here were the “likes” on Twitter that you noted on a previous thread:
quote:
“I'm super tired of white men talking about what's acceptable and what's not when it comes to dismantling white supremacy. Just stop. You don't actually know what's acceptable, and you don't get to decide. Period.”
“Educating white people about issues of race, culture, and ethnicity is extremely exhausting, but so is not saying anything and just sitting there quietly seething while they get everything wrong and literally whitewash those subjects. So either way, I'm going to be exhausted.“
“Dear People in charge of building NEW experiences Disney Land and World we don’t really need another Frozen land BUT what we could use is Wakonda, please Disneyworld Disneyland PLEASE build in Chadwick Boseman’s name WAKONDA“
“That, we, Black people, have managed to eke out even a moment of #joy in a country literally trying to annihilate us itself a miracle.”
Given his personal views, why should the people of Louisiana trust this asshat, or his boss: John Bel Lockdown.
TLDR - Good for Sweden. I’m jealous of their freedom.

Yep. There was much hysteria and hand wringing when Alabama and Auburn had a lot of "cases" at the start of school. But it has fizzled out with the quickness, and as far as I know not a single student had to go to the hospital. We should have let the damn thing run its course and carried on.

And here's where it falls apart for the US. We are incapable of complying if only being asked. Left. Right. Skinny. Fat. Black. White. It's all about me and frick everyone else.
