The problem isn't the displacement on demand itself. It is the lifter design.
You can disable it all you want those lifters will still be used.
To fully fix the problem you need to do a DOD delete, and replace the lifters themselves.

Just noticed "2017"
The issue with bad lifters ran in the GenIV LT base motors from 07-13.
The newer trucks like ours with the GenV motors are fine. The lifters and AFM is different. It seems they have corrected the issue as it's not a common issue anymore.

It's the crappy hydraulic lifters. My engine bombed twice. GM fixed it the first time and then refused the second time when the engine was 60 (!) miles out of warranty. frickers.
They know damn well it is a design issue and they refused to do a recall. As stated, they corrected the issue in the new engines.
First one was an 09 that had all the problems. Current one is a 19 and has had no problems.
