Which Springsteen Song is Better?

Trying to settle an argument with a friend.
Born in the USA or Thunder Road?
He thinks that his song is better because its lyrics “blow the other one out of the water”
So, in your opinion, which one has better lyrics, and which one is a better overall song?
Born in the USA
Thunder Road

Born in the USA
quote:
Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up
Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man
Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"
I had a brother at Khe Sanh fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone
He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now
Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go
Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.
Thunder Road
quote:
The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me
You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a saviour to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair?
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting down on the tracks
Oh-oh come take my hand
We're riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold
Thunder Road
Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
Tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
When you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind
So Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
I'm pulling out of here to win

Seems pretty unanimous. I was in favor of Thunder Road.
If you guys see TD user ThatGuy45 around here make sure you tell him what a simpleton he is for thinking Born in the USA is better. He’s a great guy and all but I spit out my drink when he claimed that.

Some people consider a bigger hit to be a better song. For example, that retard ThatGuy45.

Springsteen was always better when he was using a variety of instruments during a song. Thunder Road utilizes piano, guitar, harmonica, and sax. There’s nothing special about Born in the USA when it comes to the music.
Honestly Born in the USA sounds like a John Mellencamp song.

By the time Born to Run was written his best days were way long passed and behind him. Wasn't that something like 3-4-5 albums after his only three good LP's.

Born in the USA (Acoustic)
This version was originally going to be included on Nebraska, but Landau didn't think it quite fit.. it was recorded during those sessions..

Born in the USA was seemingly written to be a radio hit. Haven't read that from Bruce or anything, but it certainly plays that way. Nothing special about it at all, to me.
Thunder Road is a tremendous song and a top 5 Bruce song for most people.
The more appropriate song debate would be Thunder Road or Born to Run.

It actually wasn't, see post above... It was reworked to fit in with the BITUSA album though, which was more of an attempt at getting radio play..
I dont think any song with those lyrics, would be purposefully written with "hit" in mind.. not in Reagan's America..

Am I allowed to say "I'm on Fire" is his best song?
