They believe they’re on the right side of history and helping make a change by posting on Twitter

They won’t miss you. Ratings were double what they’d normally be, and will only rise when the playoffs start. Cause the thing is, whether we support the same cause as the players or not, most nba fans can see our favorite athletes have different opinions and not act like cry babies about it.

God you're an idiot.

Nothing normal about what's happening in America right now.

People are locked down and haven't had sports for months. Of course the season opener will be popular.

This is my sport. We all played basketball at some level from the goals our pops put up on the garage to rec centers and k-12 schooling. It's a great game period. The level of play in the NBA is so above what college or highschool basketball is that it's like watching supermen play a game we all understand.

It's an outlet for week night entertainment and playoff time is fantastic the whole season is well announced broadcasted and makes sense.

I don't go to work and wear protest shirts not that I'm in the entertainment industry but hopefully this is just a season start fad and this BLM crap goes away quickly because if it's allowed to persist and fester the entertainment value of the NBA will suffer and ultimately kill itself.

That would be a tremendous shame and miscalculation on the owners part.

I really wish I had ever watched one (since the 70s anyway) so I could join you in boycotting them.

Outside of CA, I highly doubt it but I can't find a breakdown of state-by-state viewership comparison.

Grown 'men' crying like little bitches because someone has a different opinion from them is pretty damn sad. I think they need a safe place so they can go cry it out together. Wahhhhh I'm no longer watching nba waaahhhhhhh wahhhhhh waahhhhhh sniffle sniffle. Bunch of whining bitches. Jesus.

Oh bullshite -- We are the normal people - we might slow down when passing a train wreck to get a quick conclusion of its severity and then go on about our lives. Most of us don't change our travel plans to stop and gawk.

Same think with this train-wreck of BLM - We noticed that it happened and a gathering crowd of gawkers were seemingly happy to halt their lives and watch and cheer/protest every official reaction to the cleanup process, but that is not us.

If my doctor all of a sudden showed up with a new NAZI symbol tattooed on his forehead, wearing a hula skirt, and spoke only in inane platitudes, seemingly disinterested in my medical condition - I would leave his office and find a new doctor.

If my lovely granddaughter all of a sudden showed up telling me about her new life experience as a crack-whore, wanting me to finance her drug habit, and deflected every comment into praise of her pimp, I'd offer to get her some mental health assistance - but would not pamper her new life-style.

I don't abandon basic principles of life for anyone - not even the ones I love dearly.

Consequences of free speech sure does piss off so many of you.

These NBA players have essentially taken their political grievances to their work place which is a public arena which forces any fans who want to watch the games to also absorb their messaging in whole or in part.

So lets take your " free speech " position to another place. Suppose on Monday morning 10 fans of the Chicago Bulls, 8 white and 2 black ( like the NBA breakdown flipped over ) who work for an insurance company in Chicago have had enough of the 50 to 75 shootings and 15 to 20 murders in the city every weekend. These 10 Bulls fans and concerned citizens decide to show up at work wearing messaging to stop the black on black killings. They hang banners from the top of their building on behalf of their cause. They wear shirts with photos of young children murdered in the crossfire of gun violence.

Do these insurance company employees have the same free speech rights as the NBA players?

13%, just think about it. 13% damn percent that is why this country is finished. There are slaves in this country still today, and it 87% who allowed their minds to be enslaved.

It will be interesting next year to see how many people will attend NBA games. The bubble shields them from fan drop off.

Good point but I’d also keep an eye on merch sales and TV ratings for the rest of this season.

My son is a huge Pelicans fan and NBA fan in general. We watched the opening night game vs. Jazz and it was appalling. I’m not watching another NBA game and I am sure the NFL will be just as bad.

I have new found appreciation for guys like James Harden, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, who have their actual names on their jeseys and not sjw slogans. I hope these leagues suffer financially for their wokeness and don’t just blame it on covid.
