The studies that support it are far and few and flawed. They can’t say with certainty that using it early is the reason for recovery bc it’s often given in tandem with other drugs and treatments. Until it can be proven that HCQ and HCQ alone increases recovery, it will continue to be restricted by fda and doctors will not write for it. That’s how the scientific method works.

I’ve seen a lot of people implicate “big pharma” in this discussion. Claiming HCQ is being dismissed bc it’d cut into vaccine profits. Just FYI, vaccines are loss leaders in the pharma world. There is a good podcast on that very subject from Planet Money that discusses the economics of vaccine development.
